In 2018, I was asked to be the women's league commissioner. At the time, I thought to myself, this will be good because I can try and work on some ways to improve Forness softball fields. Being Comissioner would give me a little more leverage in achieving that goal. What I did not factor in was that I would get to know some amazing ladies, work with the men's league commissioners that quickly became my partners in this endeavor and lastly, discover that I love softball a lot more than I thought I did.
There have been times that humbled me. There have been times that I have made a mistake or made a call I would have liked to take back. I definetly gained even more respect for my predecessors and all they had to do and what they had to deal with.
Our league went through COVID, terradactile mosquito attacks, monsoon seasons and other stressful things I probably pushed to the way back of my memory. Through it all though, I kept going because of how much I care for this league and all of the teams and players in it. I have every intention of continuing on with my mission to get the Forness our sport deserves and to get bigger and better with more teams, more tournaments and a more welcoming facility. It is time though for me to move on from the commissioner role.
I will still be a part of the softball league that I love but now as just a teammate. I look forward to future of the OWSL and know we will just keep getting bigger and better. I want everyone who plays in this league to know, it was my pleasure to help and look forward to seeing you all on the fields next season. 🥎❤️🥎
Cheers,
Mandy
