Amazing history of the Cross Sound Ferry.

As many times as we have taken this ferry, I never knew her significant history!

For the 80th anniversary of D-Day, lets highlight one of the few surviving ships from the invasion fleet, the USS LST-510, which is shown here in these photos around 1944 and in 2020. The ship landed tanks at Normandy, and after the war it was converted into civilian use as a ferry. Now named the Cape Henlopen, it still operates daily, carrying passengers and vehicles between Long Island and New London, Connecticut.

When's the last time you hopped in an Opti?

There's something about messing around in small boats that slows down time... It's a shame we think of them as "kids boats" all too often.
