New England Insanity AIHL

New England Insanity AIHL New England Insanity WAS an inline hockey team
in the American Inline Hockey League from 2011-12 to 2019.

From the remains of the Rhode Island Mulissha, the Insanity would claim two Tier II Championships in seven seasons of play. New England Insanity is the North-eastern most franchise in the 37 member American Inline Hockey League (AIHL), the most competitive roller hockey league in the country , and a member of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The team emerges from the RI Mulissha and will play the

home portion of their schedule at Teamworks Warwick (RI). The Insanity are a two tiered franchise comprised of Elite and Minor teams, and playing in the newly re-formed New England Division. Traditional rivals Hartford FireAnts and Long Island 495ers, are joined by New Jersey Surge and league newcomers New York Terror will compete with the Insanity for the division title.

Spending a lot of time with the NEI archive lately. Thing I am proudest of, by far, is seven consecutive years of playoff appearances, 57 in all. Literally playing with house money.

It's with some disappointment, a little bit of regret and touch of sadness that I admit that New England Insanity has folded. A combination of factors, not the least of which is change over time, contributed to the demise of the team in mid-season.
It was a pretty good nine year run in the AIHL with four appearances in the National Finals and two wins. For me personally its been a great ride, I have made a lot of friends I never would have met and been to places I would otherwise never go. Its been a thrill, and an education, and a long road.
Thanks for all the support over the years.

We cannot say that we were satisfied with this weekend's outcome, losing on a fluke goal, non-shot in OT is an abrupt way to end a three-game series, and a strong playoff run. But I'll choose to remember we forced OT after being down three and that we battled to the end.
While I have all the respect and kudos for the Philadelphia Liberty organization and their two championships, this weekend was a triumph for Rhode Island roller hockey. For NEI it was first ever back-to-back appearances in the Finals, while first-year Narragansett Admirals' made an improbable run all the way to the Tier II Final. Pretty amazing for a state where less than 100 adults play the game.
Thanks to all who encourage and follow and support and play for our team. This was another long road and a good ride. - John Ryder

Today NEI ventures to Philadelphia for the AIHL National Finals. Tomorrow play begins to determine seedings, Saturdays those play out, winners play Sunday. This is NEI's fourth trip to the Finals in 7 years, first even year trip, first East Coast Finals, first consecutive trip. NEI enters play with a four wins, two losses record. We are aware we are playing well at this time, in the next days we will push to play our best, to be Champions.

In the second round of the playoffs, NEI traveled to their home-away-from-home, Skate Safe on Long Island to play the New York Supreme beginning in a best of three that began at 8am. Supreme came out hot, opened a 4-1 lead in the first period of game one, and lead 6-2 with 3:07 left. NEI comeback fell short and lost 7-6. In game 2 the tide turned, NEI got two goals from Ryan Foley, two more from Jimmy Fuoroli and took their own 4-1 lead into the half. NEI came out and finished off Supreme 7-3. Game three saw the teams trade goals in the first, then Garrett Vaslet scored a Power Play goal from the half wall on the right and Goalie Mark Fagnand kicked out all but one shot. Kevin Salisbury iced the game with an empty net goal and NEI punched its ticket to the Finals in May in Philadelphia.

Last night, New England Insanity opened the 2018 playoffs with a home series against Hartford Fire Ants at Teamworks in Warwick, Rhode Island. HFA came back to win game one 5-3 with an empty net goal. Insanity responded by opening up a 4-0 lead in game two en route to a 6-2 win, setting up a rubber match. NEI again opened a lead, winning 5-1, and moving on to the second round of the playoffs.

New England Insanity opens the 2018 playoffs with a 3 game series at home versus plays Hartford Fire Ants on Saturday, April 14 at 7:15pm, 8:00, and 8:45 if necessary!

For the first time in years, New England Insanity returned from Long Island with an unblemished record. Four wins in four games is not something often seen, in this year of repeated .500 trips. NEI truly saved the best for last: playing hard from the first puck drop, committing to man to man defense, taking advantage of opportunities to score, blocking shots and getting the big save. Pretty good time, remembered winning is in fact better than losing.
Playoffs up next in April.

New England Insanity traveled to our home away from home, Skate Safe America, on Long Island for six games this past weekend. While no one hopes to get blown out (twice) or to settle for a split, the weekend was a success in that the team rallied from humbling defeat, welcomed back the strong play of goalie Casey Ewart, and may have found the key to avoiding sluggish starts and digging themselves into a hole. We'll soon know better; the season finishes up on 3/24-25 back on Long Island.
