Sad moments now... Dad is expected to pass in the next 12 - 24 hours. Known as "Coach" for most if his life for his career in tennis coaching. A 55 year member of the USPTA, inductee into the Illinois AND National High School Tennis Coach's Hall of Fame he impacted the lives of thousands of tennis players, students, neighbors and friends with his jovial personality and innovative coaching style. Coach was of Norwegian heritage and very proud of it! As a Fulbright scholar he taught for a year in Norway and brought several Norwegians back to the US to play college tennis and to work for him as assistant pros. He housed over 35 international players and pros in his home for the summer over the years as employees for his summer tennis management company A. C. T. Tennis Services. He went back to Norway on 17 separate trips to visit friends, family and became Norway's American liasion for the Norwegian Tennis Federation bring players to American colleges. As a high school coach he would rent an RV and take 10 of his high school players during Spring break from Chicago to the the warmer southern states to practice twice a day and visit colleges to find scholarships for them. In his 35 yearly trips he visited over 500 colleges! Coach was head tennis pro for the Downers Grove Swim and Racquet Club in Downers Grove, Illinios for 27 years and the #1 court was named after him for his years of service. Neighbors remember him and his wife Sue as the block greeters welcoming all new members of the neighborhood with there kindness and their 42 consecutive years of hosting the neighborhood Christmas party! Coach will most importantly be remembered for his generosity, kindness to children and widows and would always tell the young husband at Jewell grocery store "Buy her whatever he wants!" in front of his wife to make her smile! Thanks Dad for giving me...
A love for sports,
A love for children,
An example of how to treat a woman.
A career in tennis,
How to embellish a story,
A sense of humor and how to find God in the peace of the outdoors!
To my dad, my coach and my friend... Love you!
