On Sunday April 22, 2018 I went back to the land of my awakening. I carried with me the remains of John Saul Slaughter. As I climbed up to the rocks on the hill behind what was once the pack station, I was undecided as to whether I would bury his ashes or scatter them to the winds of the desert. Once there (after much huffing and puffing with this now 66 year old out of shape body) I just stood quietly and allowed the spirits to once again tell me what to do. They did not disappoint. As I was looking toward the spot where John's wife Normalee's ashes were buried, the breezes kicked up and it became clear that I needed to let the wind carry him across the desert that he loved. I placed a twig of Sage on the flat rock beside me and opened the bag and threw it to the wind. Some landed on the rock and covered the sage. But most just flew in the wind. I felt the ancient spirits welcome him home. Then as I looked down there was the most beautiful chunk of obsidian. There isn't usually any obsidian up by those rocks. But there was that day.
