Today, after some time away from competition, we returned to the mats. Ryan earned the championship in both Gi and No-Gi, and I couldn’t be prouder.

More important than the results was his courage. Competition brings nerves and fear to everyone even me but true growth comes from learning to manage those emotions and giving your best when it matters most.

Congratulations, Ryan, for representing our team with heart, courage, and respect. Thank you as well to all of his instructors and everyone involved in his journey. We are grateful for your support and dedication. 🥋🏆👏

A proud day for our team.

Today, I had the honor of awarding my friend, student, and teammate Aaron “Rhino” his 3rd Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Achievements like this are not earned overnight. They are built through years of consistency, sacrifice, loyalty, and dedication to the journey.

Aaron, thank you for your friendship, your trust, and for everything you do for our team. It has been a privilege to watch your growth both on and off the mats.

Congratulations on this well-deserved milestone. I am proud to call you my student, teammate, and friend.

The Roots of My Journey

In 2005, I had the honor of receiving my Black Belt from Paulo Filho, one of the most accomplished athletes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA history. A World Champion in Jiu-Jitsu, Judo Champion, and a dominant force in organizations such as PRIDE and WEC, Paulo built a legacy through his talent, dedication, and achievements.

But beyond the titles and victories, the greatest lesson he taught me was the value of loyalty, respect, and character.

More than 20 years have passed since my Black Belt promotion, and despite living in different countries and following different paths in life, the bond, respect, and friendship between us have remained unchanged.

At Carlson Gracie Oklahoma, these are the same values I strive to pass on to my students every day. We teach much more than techniques and competition. We teach loyalty to those who helped us grow, respect for our roots, humility in victory, dignity in defeat, and gratitude for the journey.

I am proud of where I come from, proud of my lineage, and grateful for the people who helped shape my path.
