Harding Fine Arts Academy is a Charter High School in Oklahoma City focused on the Arts. In 2010, Jennifer Allman, her husband Anthony and father Steve Welch, performed a martial arts demo for the student body at HFAA. The demo was a huge success, and after performing and talking about the impact martial arts has had in their lives, many students became interested in participating in martial arts.

Over the next year, the HFAA School Board was approached with a proposal to start a martial arts class at HFAA, and on August 17, 2011, Firehawk Martial Arts was born. As the first program of its kind in the country, students take martial arts as an elective and receive one of their required Art Credits. Since Firehawk Martial Arts set this precedent, at least two more credit programs have been established at other high schools in the nation. In the first year of Firehawk Martial Arts, there were 42 students enrolled in the class. Of those, 21 students competed at 6 tournaments, bringing home 51 First Places, 33 Second Places, and 24 Third Places. Now in their third year, Firehawk Martial Arts continues to complete in the tournament circuit, helping to raise the quality of competition and martial arts across the entire state.
