Okeechobee County Reopens Darrell Enfinger Sports Complex Pool Following Major Resurfacing Project
Okeechobee County Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the reopening of the Darrell Enfinger Sports Complex Pool on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., following the completion of a comprehensive resurfacing and rehabilitation project.
The pool has successfully passed inspection by the Florida Department of Health. Visitors may notice a slight hazy appearance in the water. This condition is procedural and is expected to diminish as the filtration system continues normal operation.
Certified lifeguards will be on duty during all scheduled operating hours.
Pool Hours
• Saturdays and Sundays: 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Additional Friday night swim events and special recreation programs will be announced throughout the season and are scheduled to continue through October 1.
The resurfacing project began in September 2025 with invitation to bid and in February 2026, Okeechobee County awarded the contract to AuMiller Pools. Once the pool was drained, the contractor discovered additional deterioration beneath the surface requiring unforeseen repairs and structural preparation to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the facility. While these additional repairs extended the construction schedule, they were completed below the overall project budget. The final project cost is approximately $170,000, resulting in an estimated $130,000 in taxpayer savings compared to the original budget allocation of $300,000.
"Our goal has always been to complete this project the right way—not simply the fastest way," said Matt Gammill, Director of Community Services and Parks. "As construction progressed, additional repairs became necessary to protect the long-term integrity of the pool. Thanks to the dedication of Sports Complex Supervisor John Kemp, our staff, and contractor, we've completed a high-quality renovation while remaining significantly under budget. We look forward to seeing families back in the water and supporting our Okeechobee High School swim team this season."
