🌲🥾🛠️ National Public Lands Day Trail Work!
Join Ojai Valley Land Conservancy (OVLC), in collaboration with the Ojai Recreation Department (ORD), as we celebrate National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 26, by getting our hands dirty on the Rice Ridge Trail!
We’ll be rerouting a portion of the trail on Forest Service land to create a more sustainable route and help hikers, bikers, and equestrians enjoy the Ventura River area for years to come. Basically, we’re giving the trail a little makeover no fancy contractors required! 😎
📅 When: Saturday, September 26
⏰ Time: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM
📍 Meet: OVLC Office, Old Honor Farm
370 W Baldwin Road, Building A4
Ojai, CA 93023
From the office, we’ll consolidate into a few vehicles and head to the worksite through the OVLC Ventura River Preserve.
📞 Need directions or running late? Call the Preserve Manager at 805-212-0445.
🛠️ What We’ll Be Doing
We’ll be creating a new section of trail by:
Cutting vegetation with hand saws and loppers
Removing stumps with picks and shovels
Building new tread with hoes and rakes
And don’t worry you won’t be thrown into the wilderness with a shovel and told to “figure it out.” OVLC staff and volunteer crew leaders will be there to provide guidance and keep us pointed in the right direction.
What to Bring
There are some patches of poison oak in the area, so long pants and long sleeves are strongly recommended. Closed-toe shoes are required, preferably boots.
🧤 Gloves
🧢 Hat, sunglasses & sunscreen
💧 Plenty of extra water
👕 Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
Coyote Two Moon will also be donating Paradise Valley Soaps, which help prevent and treat itching and rashes caused by poison oak and can even soothe bug bites! 🌿
OVLC will provide snacks and drinks, but please bring extra food and plenty of water, especially if you plan on working hard.
And remember this is trail work, not a fashion show. Leave the nice clothes at home you’re probably going to meet some dirt, sweat, and possibly a shovel that has a personal grudge against you.
Come out, get dirty, meet some great people, and help take care of the trails we all love! 🌲❤️🥾
See you on the trail!
