Today, on Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the enduring impact of Black excellence on our communities and our sport.
Roller skating and roller derby would not be what they are today without the contributions of Black athletes, innovators, and leaders. We recognize trailblazers like Darlene Johnson, whose influence helped shape modern roller skating culture, and Erin Jackson, whose journey from inline skating to Olympic gold continues to inspire skaters around the world.

As we reflect on the significance of Juneteenth, we honor the generations who fought for freedom and equality, celebrate Black joy and achievement, and recommit ourselves to building an inclusive community where everyone belongs.

At Junction City Roller Derby, we skate with pride all year long but June is a time to celebrate, remember, and uplift our 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

We honor the activists, trailblazers, and everyday people whose courage, resistance, and determination paved the way for the freedoms and visibility we have today. Pride began as a protest, and its spirit continues in every act of authenticity, community, and solidarity.

Roller derby has always been a place for the bold, the unique, the misfits, the rebels, and anyone looking for a community where they belong. We are proud to stand with our 2SLGBTQIA+ skaters, officials, volunteers, fans, and supporters.

This month, be loud. Be proud. Be visible. Be supportive. And most importantly, be yourself.

The Trump administration released a new counterterrorism strategy that used language targeting “radically pro-transgender” groups alongside extremist organizations. A lot of LGBTQ+ advocates and community members are speaking out about how dangerous that kind of rhetoric can be. JCRD wants our trans skaters, officials, volunteers, and fans to know this clearly, We see you. We support you. We will keep showing up for you.

Roller derby has always been about community, resistance, and protecting each other. So we’re putting that support into action.

** 100% of proceeds donated ** Every shirt sold will help raise funds for Ogden Pride and support programs, events, and safer spaces for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community here in Northern Utah.
We’re releasing the shirt on May 17th for International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia a day that celebrates 2SLGBTQIA+ people while raising awareness about the discrimination our communities still face around the world.
