Just a little appreciation post

These men often go many days without recognition—Josh Johnson, Justin Beatty, Dan Ohl, Ron Fagle, Ron Huffard, Chris Jelinek, Danny Carnicle and Brett Mahoney. They work hard every day to keep our parks looking amazing, our cemetery beautiful and peaceful for time with loved ones, and our aquatic center clean, safe, and welcoming.

I want to give a special thank you to Josh Johnson for always taking the time to help me—whether it’s moving things, showing me how to do something, or fixing what needs to be fixed. He comes in early to make sure everything is running properly and stays late when something needs extra attention.

Josh, you and the entire Parks Department truly go above and beyond. Thank you—I appreciate all the hard work you do every single day.

Yesterday, our team gathered for an all-staff meeting to check in, review procedures, and continue building on the great season we've already had! 🏊‍♀️☀️

Our lifeguards also spent time practicing their skills and rescues to ensure we're providing a fun and safe experience for everyone who visits the pool. 💪🚨

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of running the Oelwein Family Aquatic Center and connecting with so many wonderful children, parents, and caregivers. In those moments—whether I’m chatting poolside or simply taking in the environment around me—I’ve noticed something important. There are individuals who truly want to enjoy the water, whether that means swimming, floating, or simply sitting peacefully—but the noise and activity can sometimes feel overwhelming.

With that in mind, I began having conversations with parents, teachers, friends, and even individuals themselves. I asked a simple question: if there were a quieter, safe, and more relaxed space to enjoy the water, would that be something they’d want? The answer was always a heartfelt yes.

So, I want to follow through on that promise.

We warmly invite you to join us at the Oelwein Family Aquatic Center on Sunday June 28th from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM for a sensory-friendly swim session. This special time is designed to offer a calm, low-stimulation, and supportive environment for individuals of all ages with sensory sensitivities. Whether you prefer to ease into the water or simply enjoy it at your own pace, this space is for you.
