Please join us in welcoming Gary Don McCain as the new President of the SandHills Stock Show & Rodeo.
For decades, Gary Don has faithfully served SandHills as Vice President of Rodeo, helping preserve the rich tradition and legacy that has made SandHills one of the premier rodeos in the country for more than 78 years. His commitment to the sport of rodeo, the western way of life, and the countless people who make this event possible has been unmatched.
From welcoming elite PRCA athletes and world-class stock contractors, to supporting rodeo personnel behind the scenes, Gary Don has always led with humility and dedication. Whether he is opening a gate, running the chutes, tending to arena operations, or helping wherever needed, he has never been afraid to roll up his sleeves for the good of SandHills.
Gary Don’s vision has also helped strengthen the partnership with Odessa College while continuing to welcome PRCA veterans, rookies, breakaway ropers, and team ropers to Odessa each January. His leadership has helped keep SandHills rooted in tradition while continuing to move the event forward.
We look forward to Gary Don’s continued leadership and his vision to ensure the SandHills Stock Show & Rodeo remains the premier event it has proudly been for generations.

Today, we say thank you to a true cornerstone of the SandHills Stock Show & Rodeo — Jim Wise.
For decades, Jim has provided unwavering leadership as President of SandHills, helping guide this historic organization while always putting others before himself. Through his steady leadership, SandHills continued to honor the traditions and western heritage that have defined this event for more than 90 years, while also growing into an even stronger organization for the future.
Jim played a vital role in elevating the SandHills scholarship program and helping establish the Gold Buckle Scholarship Foundation, ensuring SandHills continues giving back to generations of young people. His leadership also helped secure tourism support, strengthen sponsorship relationships, and navigate the business side of the organization with integrity and vision.
Whether supporting events in or out of the arena, Jim was always there — often quietly working behind the scenes to make sure everything and everyone succeeded. He became a favorite among SandHills rodeo royalty, volunteers, contestants, and committee members alike, and he was always willing to lend a hand, set a trail pattern, or help wherever needed.
While Jim is stepping away from the role of President, he will forever remain part of the fabric that SandHills is built on. His dedication, humility, and love for this organization helped shape SandHills into the successful, community-focused event it is today.
Thank you, Jim Wise, for your years of dedication, leadership, and friendship. We know this is not goodbye — and we will definitely see you around the arena. 🤠👏

A huge SandHills Stock Show & Rodeo congratulations to legendary rodeo entertainer Keith Isley on his induction into the 2026 ProRodeo Hall of Fame this July. Keith has brought unforgettable energy, humor and world-class protection to rodeo fans and cowboys alike, and we have been proud to have him work our rodeo through the years. His impact on the sport as a bullfighter and rodeo clown has left a lasting mark across ProRodeo, and this honor is truly well deserved. We tip our hat to Keith and look forward to celebrating his Hall of Fame induction.

The SandHills Stock Show & Rodeo has announced a leadership transition as longtime President Jim Wise steps away from the role after decades of dedicated service to the organization. Gary Don McCain has been elected as the new President of the SandHills Stock Show & Rodeo.

Wise helped guide SandHills through a period of tremendous growth while continuing to champion the western heritage and traditions that have defined the organization for more than 90 years. During his tenure, SandHills strengthened its scholarship efforts, helped establish the Gold Buckle Scholarship Foundation, expanded sponsorship relationships, and continued building community partnerships that allowed the event to grow into one of the premier rodeos and stock shows in the region.

Known for his humble leadership style, Wise often worked behind the scenes to support volunteers, committees, contestants, sponsors, and rodeo personnel. He also played a key role in securing tourism support and helping position SandHills as a profitable event that continues to give back to the community and future generations.

“Jim Wise has been an incredible leader for SandHills and someone who truly embodies service,” the organization said in a statement. “His dedication, vision, and steady leadership helped shape SandHills into what it is today. While he is stepping away from the role of president, he will forever remain part of the fabric of this organization.”

Wise will continue supporting the organization and its events moving forward.

McCain now steps into the role after serving for several decades as Vice President of Rodeo. Throughout his time with SandHills, McCain has helped preserve and strengthen the rodeo’s longstanding legacy while helping welcome elite PRCA athletes, stock contractors, rodeo personnel, veterans, rookies, breakaway ropers, and team ropers to Odessa each year.

Known for his hands-on leadership style, McCain has long been a fixture behind the scenes at SandHills — whether opening gates, running chutes, assisting with arena operations, or supporting the many moving parts that make the rodeo successful.

McCain has also helped strengthen SandHills’ partnership with Odessa College while continuing to focus on the organization’s mission of supporting youth, education, and western heritage.

“Gary Don McCain represents the heart of SandHills,” the organization said. “His commitment to rodeo, the contestants, volunteers, sponsors, and fans has been unwavering for decades. We are excited for the future of SandHills under his leadership as we continue building on the tradition and excellence that has defined this event for generations.”

The SandHills Stock Show & Rodeo has been a staple of Odessa and West Texas since 1933 and remains one of the region’s premier celebrations of western heritage, agriculture, and professional rodeo competition.
