Colton & Paw Paw… the dynamic duo is BACK together and able to go support the Saints!

They have hit the road and are headed to SCCHS to cheer on the Saints volleyball girls!

This one hits a little different, though. This is the first time Paw Paw has been able to drive Colton since his brain tumor and surgery.

A few months ago, moments like this felt so far away… and today, there they go, just Paw Paw and his buddy again.

Thank You Lord for healing! And for answered prayers! Thank you Lord for giving us these ordinary moments that suddenly feel anything but ordinary. 🙏🏻

The dynamic duo is officially back in action!

Well someone is excited that Paw Paw has been approved from his doctor that he can get back on the road and drive again!

As most of you have probably already read the post on Facebook about how yesterday morning started with some disappointment when Colton found out he would not be helping with morning announcements like he did last year… but it has all been worked out!! 🥰

He will now be helping with announcements every day before lunch… and he is SO excited!

So thankful they found a way to keep him involved in something he loves so much. ❤️

This morning, I left the house with a very excited 10th grader!!

Colton was talking the whole way to school about how we could not be late because he needed to get there in time to help with the morning announcements.

Last year, going to the office every morning and helping with the daily announcements became his thing. It was something he looked forward to every single day. And let me tell you… if I was running behind, he was going to let me hear about it! 😂 So this morning, I made sure we were on time because I knew just how important it was to him.

But when he got there… he found out things had changed this year, and he would no longer be helping with the morning announcements.

And y’all… my mama heart hurt.

There are so many things Colton CAN’T do. Things other kids his age never have to think twice about. Things he has had to watch from the sidelines his entire life.

But this?

This was something he COULD do.

He could show up. He could be dependable. He could be part of something. He could have a responsibility that made him feel needed and important. And he was SO proud of it.

I could see the disappointment… but I told him, “Buddy, things change. Whether you do announcements or not, you are still going to have an amazing first day and an amazing school year.”

And I believe that. His 9th grade year was hands down one of the best years he has had in school… so I do believe his 10th grade year will be the same!

But as his mama, I also hope that somewhere along the way, another little job finds him. Another responsibility that gives him that same feeling of belonging and purpose. Because sometimes the “little things” that may not seem like a big deal to everyone else are actually really big things to a kid like Colton.

Here’s to sophomore year, buddy.

Maybe this morning didn’t start exactly how you pictured it, but I have a feeling God still has some pretty special things waiting for you this year.

Go show them just how much you CAN do.

Tonight, Colton goes to bed as a kid soaking up the last few hours of summer… and tomorrow morning, he wakes up a SOPHOMORE!

I’m having ALL the emotions tonight.

There were days when we didn’t know what Colton’s future would look like. We were once told our boy might not even see his first birthday… and now here I am, getting everything ready to send him off to 10th grade. 😭

Sometimes the milestones that may seem ordinary to everyone else feel absolutely HUGE to us. Every new school year, every grade completed, every “first day” is another reminder of just how far he has come!!

I’m so incredibly proud of the young man he is becoming. He has faced more in his 16 years than most people will face in a lifetime… yet he continues to smile, laugh, push himself, and prove over and over that his story is still being written.

So tonight, I’m going to soak in these feelings… the pride, the gratitude, the little bit of sadness that my boy is growing up way too fast, and most of all, the overwhelming thankfulness.

Tomorrow morning, I get to take my 10th grader to school. 🥹

God is SO good. He has carried us through every scary moment, every surgery, every unknown, and every mountain we thought was impossible to climb. And He has blessed us with the opportunity to watch Colton reach another beautiful milestone.

Go have the BEST sophomore year, Colton!

Keep proving that no one gets to put a limit on what God has planned for your life.

Tomorrow you wake up a SOPHOMORE.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord… Jeremiah 29:11 🙏

Paw Paw Update ❤️ (sorry for your delay in updating… I know several have reached out checking on him)

Paw Paw had his staples removed before he left UAB Rehabilitation… and his scar looks GREAT!

After the scare he gave us all after settling in back home and having to return to UAB by ambulance after losing consciousness… it was a short stay mostly for observation…. But he is doing great!

He goes back on August 24th for a follow-up appointment… he is really hoping he gets cleared to drive again! I think that may be the thing he is looking forward to the most. We all know Colton is really hoping he is cleared bc football season will be back in session next week and he needs his chauffeur back on the road!

Paw Paw is doing so incredibly well that therapy said he didn’t even need to continue with it! After everything he has been through over the last several weeks, we are so thankful to see how far he has come.

Thank you all again for every prayer, text, phone call, visit, and all the love and support you have shown our family through this journey. We truly appreciate it more than you know.

God has been so good, and we are incredibly thankful for how well Paw Paw is doing! 🙏🏻❤️

PAW PAW HAS BUSTED OUT OF UAB!

After one very long journey… Paw Paw is officially headed HOME!

What started with an 8+ hour brain surgery to remove a meningioma has been filled with countless prayers, incredible doctors and nurses, long days, sleepless nights, hard therapy sessions, victories… and so much determination. From the amazing care he received at UAB Hospital to the outstanding therapists and staff at UAB Rehabilitation… we truly cannot say thank you enough. Every single person who has cared for him has played a part in getting him to this day.

While there is still a road of recovery ahead, today is a huge milestone worth celebrating!

Of course… Paw Paw had one request before heading home. 😂 He made sure Nanny made a pit stop at the Chinese buffet! We all know hospital food gets old, and he was ready for something different. Once he is finished filling his belly… he will be heading straight home to rest, continue healing, and get ready for the next chapter of recovery with outpatient therapy.

We also want to thank every single one of you who has prayed, sent messages, called, texted, visited, brought food, donated, and simply checked in on our family. The love and support from our community has carried us through some very difficult days, and we will never be able to thank you enough. Blessed with the best village!

As many of you know, Nanny will now be taking on the role of caregiver at home while helping Paw Paw get settled back into a new routine. To help make things a little easier during this transition, we have created a Meal Train for their first week at home. If you would like to help by providing a meal, it would be such a blessing and would allow them to focus on what matters most… his healing and recovery.

Most importantly, we ask that you continue praying. Pray for strength, healing, patience, endurance, and successful outpatient therapy in the weeks ahead. We know God has carried Paw Paw this far, and we know He isn’t finished yet.

Home never looked so good.

Welcome home, Paw Paw… and Nanny!! ❤️

Paw Paw is coming home tomorrow! 🎉

He has officially completed inpatient rehabilitation and is headed home some time tomorrow!!

We are so thankful for the incredible care he has received at UAB Hospital and UAB Rehabilitation. Every doctor, nurse, therapist, and staff member has played a part in helping him get to this point, and we are beyond grateful. His therapy team has been absolutely amazing, and we can’t thank them enough for the compassion, encouragement, and hard work they have poured into his recovery.

While he has finished inpatient rehab, his journey isn’t over. He will continue his recovery by returning for outpatient therapy as he continues to regain his strength.

As they transition back home, we have created a meal train to help take one thing off Nanny’s plate while she gets Paw Paw settled into their new routine. If you would like to bless them with a meal during their first week home, we know it would mean so much to them.

Most of all, thank you for every prayer, phone call, text message, visit, and act of kindness shown to our family over these past few weeks. We have truly felt the love and support from our community.

Please continue praying for Paw Paw as he continues healing and regaining his strength. We are so thankful for how far he has come, and we know God still has great things ahead.

First, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the incredible love, prayers, encouragement, and support our family has received over the past few weeks. Paw Paw Update ❤️

Overall, Paw Paw is doing great!

The rumor is that he will get to bust out of UAB Rehabilitation on Saturday, and we are so excited! It’s amazing to look back and see just how far he has come in such a short time.

Nanny has been right by his side through every step of this journey. She was finally able to sneak away for a couple of hours yesterday, and we know that little break was so needed. She has been an incredible caregiver and advocate for him.

We can never say thank you enough for all the prayers, phone calls, texts, visits, support, and love you all have shown our family. We truly believe every prayer has carried us through this journey.

Please continue to pray for Paw Paw as he transitions home… that his strength continues to improve each day, and that God continues to guide his recovery.

We are so thankful for each and every one of you. ❤️

Also as soon as Paw Paw gets the official green light to come home, I’ll be setting up a meal train to help take one thing off Moms plate during that first week as they get settled back into a new routine. So many of you have been asking me about wanting to help with this. I will share all the details as soon as we know for sure that he is headed home.
