Meet Serena - Will Bend for Plants

Don’t be distracted by the serenity of Serena’s quieter disposition. She’s a f*cking brick house beast of a mother of 4- two of which are twins! Also, if you hang around the studio long enough, you’ll soon realize she’s not that quiet, is suuuuper sarcastic, and has the most excellent go-to-the-gutter thinking!

Serena is a fiery, piano playing, plant whisperer, Phish stalker, and an Oh-So-Awesome-Plant-Eating-Human who just so happens to be a fabulous yoga teacher. How did we get so lucky??

She’s committed to the daily work of being on her mat and loves to be around others who are as well. You can expect to get right to it in her classes and get sh*t done. In the best way.

We love that her classes and teaching are reflections of who she is as a person - direct and straight to the point, all substance, and no fluff! Well okay…. she can be caught reading smutty romance novels!! Her passion for the practice and lifestyle of yoga are extremely evident and her classes are set to groovy yoga tunes with beats you can feel.

Her commitment to yoga and our SLYC community is evident in her very regular attendance as a student as well as a steadfast and vital member of our weird teaching crew.

Serena has been a member of SLYC since 2017 and a teacher since 2020. She graduated from the illustrious SLYC yoga school with her 200hr teaching certificate during the pandemic in 2020. Yes that’s right - Even a world wide pandemic wasn’t going to stop Serena!

When not teaching or practicing yoga you’ll find Serena reading romance novels (yeah, we weren’t kidding 🤪), running, lifting weights, gardening, and tending to her amazing family and their active lifestyle.

Come see the Yoga in Action and get bent with Serena!

Give us👏🏻🙌🏻 in the comments for Serena!

Prana: The Life Force You’re Already Working With

You know that moment when you walk into a room and instantly feel the collective mood?
That’s you sensing prana, whether or not you call it that.

In yoga, prana is the vital life force—the subtle current that animates breath, movement, mood, and, yes, the energy you feel from the person on the mat next to you who’s already having A Day.

What to know as a student:
✨ Your breath is your prana’s steering wheel.
✨ How you breathe directly affects how you feel.

What to know as a teacher:
✨ Prana awareness can shift your cueing from mechanical to intuitive.
✨ Energetics aren’t woo—they’re the subtle language your students already speak.

Welcome to the invisible half of the practice.

📸 “Just another forward fold?”

Nah. This is a full-blown journey inward, baby.

At Soleil Lune, we know the pose is just the gateway. The real magic happens in the quiet moments—the deep breaths, the self-talk, the surrender. What you're seeing here? It's not just hamstrings on fire (though…yes, that too). It’s someone doing the hard, holy work of turning inward.

✨ Because yoga isn’t just about stretching your body—it’s about stretching your awareness.

We, your weird, supportive, sarcastic-as-hell Soleil Lune crew, take the responsibility of holding space seriously. (Well…not too seriously—we’re still us.) We create sacred containers for transformation: where you can laugh, sweat, cry, swear, and actually feel something other than pressure to “nail the pose.”

💡 So if you’ve been craving something deeper than trendy sequencing and perfect lighting…

You’re in the right place.

Here, we do THE yoga.

The kind that gets under your skin (in a good way).

The kind that sticks with you off the mat.

The kind that changes you.

Come see what it’s really about.

👐 Assists: Helpful or Just… Weird?

You know that moment when someone drops into your space mid-pose with the enthusiasm of a human foam roller and you're like… “Was that supposed to help?”

Yeah. We’ve all been there.

Assists can be incredible. They can ground a nervous system, create space in the body, or help a student finally understand what “lengthen your spine” actually feels like. But without clarity, consent, and some basic body knowledge? It’s easy for things to get awkward—or worse, unsafe.

Because let’s be real:
🧠 Great assists aren’t about fixing people. They’re about facilitating feeling.
💬 And no one wants to be surprise-adjusted into a spinal twist they didn’t sign up for.

✨ Try This:
For Teachers:
Before you reach out, pause. Ask yourself:
👉 What am I helping this student feel?
👉 Have I asked for consent today?
👉 Am I grounded and clear—or winging it and hoping for the best?
Use one hand for direction, one for support. Observe before you act. Sometimes, the most effective assist is saying nothing and simply holding space.

For Students:
Next time someone offers an assist, check in with yourself.
👉 Do I want this right now?
👉 Does this feel supportive—or confusing?
It’s 100% okay to say “no thanks.” Your body, your choice.

Assists should never be performative. They should be purposeful. Whether you're teaching or taking class, the goal isn’t perfection—it’s presence.

We all find our yoga practice to be so powerful because of the depth of surrender and discipline. Devotion, dedication, determination and discipline are what every yoga practitioner needs.

Ask yourself this: what are you willing to sacrifice in order to attain your goals? The bigger the goals, the greater the need for surrender.

Can you sit down on the inside? Can you silence the internal crazy and incessant chatter? Can you be still enough to listen.....to wait.....and respond when the invitation is given?

Only when you are willing to give everything up in total surrender to God, will He reveal the path He has planned for you. His plan for you has always been there. Your specific path will only be available when you are ready.

Like a chick hatching from its egg, authentic awakening cannot be rushed. Be patient. Practice every day. Be ready for God's invitation. Say YES and prepare for one wild ride!

Scientific literature increasingly shows just how much our subconscious biases, prejudices, and orientations influence us. These implicit patterns quietly guide behavior, shaping our actions and future responses without us even realizing it.

It starts small — a thought, a feeling, a sensation — like a wave rolling across the ocean of consciousness. In response to internal or external stimuli, these waves settle into the subconscious, forming sensory impressions. Think of them like neural pathways: the more often they fire, the stronger the connection. As the saying goes, neurons that fire together, wire together. Repeated patterns — whether thoughts, emotions, or reactions — create lasting pathways in the mind.

Not all sensory impressions serve us equally. Adaptive impressions cultivate kindness, virtue, and presence, bringing us closer to our highest truth. Maladaptive impressions, on the other hand, feed craving, delusion, and aversion, keeping us stuck and disconnected from self-knowledge.

Yoga offers a structured way to become aware of these patterns and to replace unhelpful ones with healthier responses. For example, when feelings of “I’m not enough” arise, practicing an affirmation like, “May I know that I am enough,” and truly embracing how God sees us, can gradually reshape those impressions.

Many of us start yoga like cold, congealed spaghetti. Each practice warms and mixes the strands a little more. You might not notice the change after one class—or even five—but over months and years, these small transformations compound, and suddenly you find yourself interacting with the world in a profoundly different way. 💫

So, let’s get to it… do your yoga. 🙏🏻

Does Your Yoga Leave You Wanting More?

Or just wondering where the nearest couch is?
Let’s be real—yoga can be chill. But it can also be soul-sparking, sweat-dripping, heart-pounding, eye-opening fun. The kind that leaves you walking out of class like you just crushed the final scene in a Rocky movie.

You don’t need to punch meat in a freezer or run up 72 steps in Philly to feel that buzz.

Just the right blend of movement, intention, breath, and—let’s be honest—community that actually makes you feel something.

💥 Inspired.
💥 Alive.
💥 Like maybe you could high-five the sun.

If your practice isn’t leaving you a little more you every time you show up, you might just be doing exercise—not yoga.

At Soleil Lune, we don’t do “just going through the motions.” We do hell yes, that moved something in me.

🎉 Come play. Come sweat. Come remember why you love this practice in the first place.

🌀 Where Did the Art of Teaching Yoga Go? 🌀

Be honest — are you just a little tired of the same old “flow” that starts with a poetic reading, ends with another reading, and in between… choreography? (Beautiful choreography, sure. But choreography nonetheless.)

When did Yoga — the art of teaching, reflection, curiosity, and awareness — get replaced with synchronized stretching and playlists that sound like spa commercials?

Yoga isn’t about memorizing shapes. It’s about cultivating a reflective mind and heart. It’s about noticing what arises while you move — the emotions, the resistance, the insights that sneak up when you stop trying to perform your practice and actually experience it.

Resistance isn’t the enemy. It’s a teacher. When you lean into it — with curiosity instead of judgment — something shifts. You start asking better questions: Is this true? Is this mine? Can I celebrate the fact that I’m still learning?

That’s Yoga. That’s growth. That’s the difference between following choreography and following consciousness.

So next time you roll out your mat, bring your curiosity, your courage, and your whole messy heart. That’s where the real flow begins. 💫
