Ocala Judo Club had the unique opportunity to be included in an inter-club training session with Metro Orlando Judokai, easily the most active club in central Florida when it comes to promoting grass roots judo. Several members from Gator Judo were in attendance, but Ocala Judo could have been better represented. I hope more of you will make time for these special events in the future when they present themselves.
When we have opportunities to engage in these types of events, we get to experience judo at a much greater level; not only through learning techniques from special guest instructors, but also through randori training with people outside of our club, and building friendships with judo players from around the state.
We also get the opportunity to meet special people we wouldn't otherwise encounter; to learn from them and hear their stories, to shake hands with the great people of judo who will always greet you as a friend.
So , I encourage each of you to make an effort to attend events outside of our club. Your instructors will always try to make announcements about when these events are coming up and what you need to do to participate. Generally, you just need to be an active judo association member and show up at the event. Who knows, you might even get to meet someone special, learn something new, or meet someone that will become an important friend or role model in your life.
See you at practice!
