WINNING IS EVERYTHING.
Right?
For a long time, I believed that.
For nearly 10 years of my life, I poured everything I had into pursuing trophies, banners, titles, and recognition in the competition dance world.
My dancers and I traveled across the United States attending regional, national, and even world dance competitions. We chased scores, rankings, and awards because we were taught that success could be measured by what hung on our walls.
That if your studio was truly great, there would be trophies to prove it.
And for a while, I believed that too.
Until I realized something.
A trophy has never comforted a struggling dancer.
A banner has never taught a child integrity.
A judges’ award has never built resilience, kindness, or character.
The things that matter most can’t be displayed in a lobby.
Don’t get me wrong,we believe in excellence. We believe in hard work, discipline, growth, and giving your very best.
But if the mission ends with winning, we’ve missed the point.
Because one day the trophies collect dust.
The scores are forgotten.
The rankings disappear.
But who a dancer becomes remains.
That realization became one of the driving forces behind Devotions Dance Company.
We intentionally chose to be a PERFORMANCE studio rather than a COMPETITION studio.
Our dancers still train, perform, and pursue excellence. But instead of spending their dance experience chasing scores, they gain real performance opportunities, develop leadership skills, build meaningful friendships, serve their community, and discover how their gifts can impact others.
At DDC, dance is about more than dance.
It’s about character.
It’s about confidence.
It’s about leadership.
It’s about purpose.
Because we aren’t trying to raise dancers who need a judge’s score to tell them their worth.
We’re trying to raise young people who know who they are, pursue excellence with humility, and use their gifts to make a difference.
At DDC, the goal was never to create trophy winners.
The goal is to help shape future leaders.
