Good morning☀️ Pairings for our 33rd Annual Ron Slaven Memorial⛳️
1st flight of 19 teams (95 golfers) will begin at 7AM followed by another 19 teams at approximately 1:30PM. Which will mark our biggest number of participants ever!
I checked my Facebook memories, and a post from 2014 popped up—12 years ago, when I was just beginning to help with this tournament. In that post, I was asking for one more team of five to join us so we could fill the field. Since that year, we have been completely full and, unfortunately, have had to turn teams away. This year was by far the quickest we have filled up.
2025 was the first year we expanded to 19 teams because it gets to the point where “no” just isn’t an answer. This year, we decided to run both flights with 19 teams. Cause, why not?
Teams travel from across the state—and even across the country—to join us, not only to support our small nonprofit golf club, but more importantly, to support the Slaven family, who lost a son 33 years ago this year.
At that time, Paul and Carrol Slaven had no idea they were starting something that would not only save our club, but also preserve an Oakridge gem that has provided affordable family fun, produced state champions, and created countless great memories. This will also mark the first year that Paul and Carrol won’t be golfing. As you make your way to the clubhouse or make the turn on 9, take a moment to tell them thanks. One of the better, “turning a negative into a positive” I’ve ever seen.
So, while you’re waiting to hit your next shot this weekend, take a moment to think: Where else would you rather be? Nowhere but home. Welcome to the greatest weekend of the year!
