The Library was a part of the school district until 1966, when it became a department of the Borough of Oakmont, to allow us to better serve both children and adults in the community. In this picture, Ed Cecil, Jack Carson and Herry Kent, students at Oakmont High School, are working hard on their studies at Oakmont Carnegie Library. They have quite a few books assembled on the table. The closest book is the Encyclopedia Americana. The two other books with spines facing the photographer are a First-Year French by O'Brien and LaFrance and On the Beach by Nevil Shute.
