When the show you prepared for gets canceled due to no power from the storm that went through Pennsylvania Saturday evening, you go into action and put on your own show. Very big thank you to Jason Vansickle for agreeing to be our judge on extremely short notice, we appreciate you doing this very much! Thank you to everyone who sent me pictures and our wonderful showteam mom Betsy! All the parents who went into action and helped in so many ways! Apologies to anyone we missed, parents were watching the show and didn’t get many riding pics!! We also want to thank Kelsey Vansickle for helping us secure a judge last minute!!

You NEVER know just how much that first riding lesson can shape the future of a child. Lucy Stauffer lives in Pittsburgh and started taking lessons many years ago. She started on Frosty and rode many different lesson horses over the years. I’ve watched her grow into a very talented rider and handle every challenge that her horse or instructor threw at her. I invited her to join our show team years ago and it’s been so fun watching her progress!! The past several years she has ridden Sadie and the two are quit the team together. Competing in the ranch riding devision and showmanship classes. Lucy is a profectionist and demands a lot from herself and her horse. The dedication of living in Pittsburgh and just making the drive to and from for lessons, practice, clinics, and shows is a lot to ask, but Lucy NEVER once complained!! She’s a role model for the younger team members and she has a very bright future in front of her. Lucy will be attending Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand to study Veterinary Science!! We are so proud of her but really going to miss her while she’s away. Best of luck Lucy!!

Meet LLF Designer Made (barn name Potter) an American Morgan Horse. The first recognized official horse breed developed in the United States. Morgan’s are considered a foundational breed, playing a significant role in developing the American Quarter Horse, Tennessee Walking Horse, and American Saddlebred.
Due to their intelligence, stamina, and small, compact size, they were used by both sides during the American Civil War. Known for being exceptionally hearty, healthy, and easy to maintain, requiring less or no grain compared to many other breeds.
Did you know that all Morgans can trace their lineage back to one founding stallion named Figure, who was born in 1789 and later owned by Justin Morgan, a school teacher and composer. The horse that chooses you is their official motto, highlighting their friendly and interactive nature. They are known by their refined head, expressive eyes, arched neck, and powerful hindquarters.
Morgan’s can literally do it all from pulling carriages, dressage, jumping, reining, trail, both western and English and therapeutic riding.
The foundation stallion Figure died in 1821 from an untreated kick received from another horse. His 3 most famous sons: Sherman, Bulrush, and Woodbury carried on his legacy to future generations of the Morgan horse.
If you see me driving my truck around town look at my license plate, it says MORGANS because I just love this breed.

Meet 7 amazing American Quarter Horse’s who call our stable home. The first breed ever developed in the U.S. and the world’s most popular horse, with over 3 million registered.
They are named for their unmatched ability to outrun other breeds, including Thoroughbreds, in races of a quarter mile. They can reach speeds of up to 55 mph. They are renowned for their “cow sense,” versatility, and friendly nature, standing an average 14-16 hands tall. While they come in many colors (including buckskin, palamino, and roan), the most common color is sorrel.
Because of their quick acceleration and agility, they are the preferred horse for rodeo, roping, and barrel racing. Besides racing and ranching they are also used for jumping, hunting, and trail riding. They are hardy horses typically living for 25/30 years.
Did you know that the state bosting the most Quarter Horses registered is Texas? Of course you knew that!! They originated from Spanish and Thoroughbred horses among other English breeds. They are the most popular breed at our stable and are loved by so many. If you can only afford to own one horse then the American Quarter Horse is the breed you should consider because they can literally do it all.

Meet Zee, a registered Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse who lives at our stable. Known for their ambling gait often called “saddle racking” or a “Cadillac” ride, they provide a rocking chair, smooth four beat gait.
They are an intelligent breed developed in the Appalachian region as an all-purpose farm horse for mountain families; serving as reliable transport and plow horses. They existed without much recognition until the late 1980s when more people came to appreciate them for their smooth ride and dependability. The breed registry was formed in 1989. They are typically calm enough for beginners and even children to handle. And their smooth ride is often suitable for people with physical limitations.
Did you know that the foundation sire for the Kentucky Mountain Horse is the same foundation sire for the Rocky Mountain Horse? The famous gaited stallion Old Tobe lived in Kentucky during the early 1900s. The primary difference between these two breeds lies in the registry standards and color preferences. The Rocky Mountain is stricter, requiring specific ancestry that can be traced back to Tobe. The Kentucky Mountain registry is more open, allowing horses with similar gaited traits but without specific bloodline proof, and has no color preferences. So the Kentucky Mountain Horse was established to include horses that didn’t meet the RMHA criteria.
As a person who has ridden both the Rocky and Kentucky Mountain Horse I can say I prefer the Rocky but only because I feel their gait is more consistent with what I like in a gaited horse. But again, that’s just my opinion.
