The first “Target Talk” newsletter was published in March of 1953. Club Meetings were held at the Diamond Sportsmen's Club, 2003 MacArthur Blvd. At the Annual Installation Banquet Meeting on December 9th , 1955 the White Company Emblem and History Book of Records were presented by Harold MacQuarrie to newly elected President Howard Johnson. The 1955 California State Archery Tournament was held o...n the Redwood Bowmen Regional Park Range. More than 600 field archers from throughout California assembled on the Rebo Range for the 10th annual California Bowmen Hunters and Field Archers Association Championships. Local clubs in the fray included the Tilden Archers of Berkeley, the San Francisco Archers, the So-Ea-Ba Archers of Castro Valley, the Roving Archers of Richmond, and the San Pablo Associated Sportsmen Archers. The Redwood Bowmen regularly competed with the Tilden Archers and San Francisco Archers in a friendly but spirited competition known as the Tri-City Shoot. Hosting of the Tri-City Shoot rotated among the clubs and was usually held on the 4th Sunday of the month in the late summer and early fall months. The Rebo spirit at these early “Tri-Club” competitions was reminiscent of the b***y medieval mood of A. Conan Doyle's White Company, evident in the “Rebo Song” sung by members at these competitions:

The REBO Song

(Tune – You Are My Sunshine)

We are the Rebos, the deadly Rebos
We shoot our twenties, consistently. We shoot 450 on twenty-eight,
Please don't cut our bow-strings today. When on the range, or in brushy woodland,
With targets small and far away,
We deadly Rebos bring home our trophies,
You'll see no finer shooting today. We are the gals of the Deadly Rebos,
Our aim is steady, our scores are high,
We're pretty handy with bow and arrow,
Just ask any Rebo Guy. We are the Rebos, the Deadly Rebos,
We shoot our twenties consistently,
We never stagger, we never falter,
Please don't take our Jim Beam away. The Redwood Bowmen have maintained the Tri-City Shoot tradition through an annual “Tri-Club Shoot” competition between Redwood Bowmen, Diablo Bowmen, and the Briones Archers. The Tri-Club Shoot takes place every year on the same day as the NCFAA Regional Field Archery Championships. Like the original Tri-City Shoot, the winning club takes the trophy home and is responsible for adding the badge commemorating their win. The Redwood Bowmen have won the Tri-Club Shoot nine years in a row as of 2007.

The range and courses are now open. Finally! But take care, the place has taken a beating. Let us know if you find any safety hazards.

The Roberts Park is open, and the Redwood Bowmen Archery Range is open. Even though the range is open, it is probably best to not be around if it's rainy or windy. Things fall from the sky here. In particular, please stay clear of fallen trees, stay on the trails, and if you encounter any new

The past few weeks of nasty weather have been hard on our course. There are numerous downed trees, floods, and just other weather related safety issues. So we are keeping the Open and Bowl courses closed a little bit longer to allow us to make repairs. Targets 1-28 are closed. It's unsafe at the moment.

The practice area is open, and we are working on opening the Hill course later today.

Reminder that we are still subject to the EBRP weather related closures. There has been some damage from the last wave of rains, and more waves are expected. As you can see, we are trying to keep on top of it during the breaks in the weather, but the decision to open rests with the parks. You can check out their web site at ebparks.org (we are technically part of Roberts Regional Recreational Area) and we will also try to keep you informed via Facebook and our own website at redwoodbowmen.org.

Stay safe and dry.

The Redwood Bowmen range is closed today, tomorrow, and possibly longer, due to the unsafe conditions caused by today's extreme weather. Watch this space for updates.

The course will be closed January 4th and 5th, 2023, and possibly longer, due to possible unsafe conditions caused directly, and indirectly, by the extreme weather. We will reopen after safy checks are performed.

Safety Note : Sometime last week we had an incident where one group of archers was standing at this target, and another small group was much closer, in the valley before this target. (There was a child shooting from up close.) The archers in back didn't clear the lane, and wound up shooting arrows over the heads of those down in the valley. 😲 (No one was hurt.) This is on the Hill course, the target just before the Rock Shot. There _is_ a blind spot there, so please PLEASE be careful.

1. Please note that there archers of all skill level using the courses, so might be shooting different stakes from you. Clear the ENTIRE lane, in front and behind, before shooting, and

2. Watch out for blind spots like this. Situational awareness!

3. Don't park at targets on the course (except #1 and #21 since they are designated sight-in targets) especially at closer stakes as that can make you harder to notice by archers coming up from behind.

No harm done this time. Let's keep it that way.

Fire abatement work has been completed in the practice area and the Hill course, so these areas are now open

The Open and Lower courses (targets 1-28) are next, so will be closed for several weeks. Please observe the closer notices, for your safety, and the safety of the people doing the abatement work.

This is the weather at the observatory right next to the archery range, and it is not even 8am. It is already above 80F, and the humidity is dangerously low. That is why the EBRP parks in the area, including Roberts, where Redwood Bowmen is located, are all closed. Expect dangerous heat for at least the coming week. Even if the park is not closed, we don't recommend coming here in this weather.
