John's Classic Lures

John's Classic Lures Each lure is a replica of an antique fishing lure and comes complete in an old-time full color box! After all, they've worked for over 100 years.

At John's Lures we make replicas of the antique lures of yesteryear. We truly love and deeply appreciate the old wooden plugs of the early 1900s. That's why we do what we do, taking pains to preserve the design, the heft, and the carefully crafted look and feel of the tried and true. Even our colors have been modeled after the originals, with paints mixed to duplicate the shading you may have thou

ght was a thing of the past. The great outdoor writer Jerry Dennis once claimed that wooden canoes have a soul; we believe the same thing is true of our handcrafted wooden lures. After all, not too long ago, they were alive and growing in the woods along the rivers and streams of America's Midwest. So drift back in time and give a gift that stirs memories of fine things past: the smell of campfires and coffee, the sizzle of bacon in an iron skillet, and the hiss of an old Coleman lantern. More importantly, give a gift that recreates the unmistakable, bass-enticing sound of a Jitterbug being fished at night, or the "kerplunk" of a Lucky 13 on still water. You can contact us via e-mail, Facebook, phone or even stop by our shop if you give us a call before-hand. Be sure to check back often to see where we are going to be and find news about us!

We have two new variations on the Bailey Bait, our replica of a model 500 Bomber. The T-Bait, named after Theo, the newest addition to the Wilkinson family, is a replica of the model 400 Bomber. The K-Bait, named after Kyana, also known as Theo's mom 😉, is a replica of the model 600.

Our series of Bomber replicas are John's go-to diving lures for almost any conditions! Check out all three paint patterns at the links below!

Named after our youngest grandson Theo, the T-Bait is a handcrafted replica of a 1940 Bomber Bait Co. Bomber. It runs backwards like a crawdad, just like our Bailey Bait. If you hit a limb underwater, it's the backside gets hit rather than the hook side. The T-Bait is our version of a model 400 Bombe...

Now that we have our site updated, it's time to introduce the Cut-throat Special, our replica of the 1939 Dalton Special.

This will be our first in a line of limited-run lures. There will only be 12 made in this color, so don't miss out!

This replica of a 1939 Dalton Special measures 4" long and weighs 3/4 oz. The original lure had a contentious history. Created by Philip Dalton and manufactured by Shakespeare, their relationship deteriorated in 1948 due to a disagreement over a price increase. Ultimately, production was halted mid-...
