The Wright Ride

The Wright Ride Annual Wright Ride - Sunday, August 20th, 2023
not a race but a leisurely jaunt Why Wright? He lived and worked in the area between 1889 and 1909. Roberts.

The Wright Ride is named for one of Oak Park's most famous citizens, Frank Lloyd Wright, who spent the first 20 years of his 70 year career here, building numerous homes that still stand in the community, including his own. His earliest work can be found here, including the Winslow House in neighboring River Forest. Oak Park boasts many examples of the very first Prairie Style houses, as well as W

right's world-renowned Unity Temple, which was built between 1905-1908. There were several well-known architects and artists that worked in Wright's Oak Park Studio. Richard Bock, William Eugene Drummond, Marion Mahony Griffin, and Walter Burley Griffin each contributed to Wright's work during this time. Innumerable buildings in Oak Park were built by other Prairie School architects such as Tallmadge and Watson, George W. Maher, Robert C. Spencer, John Van Bergen, and E.E. Additionally, there are various architectural styles of the late 19th and early 20th centuries located throughout the town.

While we will not be having the Wright Ride for 2024, you can still ride with the Oak Park Cycle Club during our annual Ride of Silence. The Ride of Silence (www.rideofsilence.org) is a worldwide event honoring those who lost their lives while cycling or walking. It has a rolling 7 pm start worldwide. It is a slow, silent ride. Come join us & show that cyclists are here & have a ride to ride safely on the public thoroughfares. The ride is family friendly (~ 9-10 mph). Please sign up for the event at the link below if you are planning to ride with us.

A not so subtle reminder why dark riding gear at night is a bad idea. Lit up like a Christmas tree is safer. There is cool reflective gear out there plus lights to help you arrive home alive. Stay safe & come do the Wright Ride on August 18th.

They came, they rode, they noshed, it was hot , but they didn’t let it stop them from having a great ride. Thanks to all the riders who endured the heat and made it their ride.
