The “Wall” has been taken down, the heavy bags no longer hang waiting, goading to be struck. The mats have been lifted, holes patched, pads stored, weapons secured, and keys turned in.

Valhalla Krav Maga no longer exists in the physical. It exists now in our memories and in our hearts. It exists in the deepest parts of our souls. Lifelong fellowships have been formed, it’s what happens when you share pain, sweat, failure, and triumph together. Bonds that secure moments that most will understand not at all, some will have a notion, a select few will know to their core what it means to be pushed beyond limits.

It is said that you miss every shot you don’t take. I believe that. I truly do. I don’t know if there is a saying for the shots that fall short. Mr. Rosevelt would say something about failure being superior to those who never step up and take a spot in the arena and fight. I believe him.

There is an emptiness when you don’t get to end something on your terms, a sense of loss, a sense of being adrift; at the mercy of an unseen current…..

It’s ok to drift for a time, to let yourself be carried away, to detach and relax.

Sooner or later, you have to start swimming. Sooner or later you have to make land, get back on the mats, reload and take aim again. Sooner or later you have to remember what you are, what you’ve done, what has yet to be accomplished.

I’m going to drift for a short time, but I can already hear the whisper of the mats. I can hear them call out to me, bringing me back for the next round. I hear them taunting me, I hear them challenging me, I hear them thinking they’ve won.

They have not.

I don’t know how long my journey will last; I only know I ain’t done yet.

To all those who’ve trained at Valhalla Krav Maga; you ain’t done yet either!

It was a bittersweet ending.
It was a perfect ending.

Nothing was held back.

Odin damn well heard us.

The journey is not yet complete, nor should it ever be.

A new path lies ahead.

From the depths of my soul, I cannot thank you all enough. It has been an honor.

Suns set, chapters end, stories have resolutions. This Thursday, September 25th Valhalla Krav Maga’s story concludes. It has been an incredible nine years and I cannot thank all of our current and former students enough for their dedication, perseverance, and grit.

Join us for our Last Class from 6:30 to 8:30pm on the 25th of September.
