For folks who aren't already runners, I imagine that headlines like this one can be discouraging.

I mean, I agree that fall is the best time of year to run. (At least in this hemisphere.) But if you're just starting out, 5K is a lot! Start by jogging a few minutes down the road, or around the block. Take walk breaks if you need to,

Once that feels easy, go two blocks. Then three. And so on.

No one ever got hurt or frustrated or burned out by starting too slow and too easy.

The 5K isn't going anywhere. It'll be there when you're ready for it. In the meantime, just head out the door and do what you can. Be patient. Make it a habit. Pay attention to your body, your thoughts, and the world around you.

Running isn't about distance—it's about getting out there and doing what you can. ✌
