I was just wondering who would be interested in running a simple 5K for a good cause? And it just happens to take place on my birthday, so it would be pretty special to me to do that with friends!
On June 4, 2011, Katie Vree, a bright-eyed and beautiful 17 year old who goes to my church, was traveling to Guatemala on a missions trip with a group of students from her school. Ten minutes before the plane landed in Miami for a layover, she began experiencing pain and numbness to her left arm. Within 3 hours, Katie was rendered paralyzed from the neck down. It has been determined that a virus attcked the fluid in her spinal cord.
Since then, Katie has experienced slow, small movements on her journey to recovery. She no longer requires a feeding tube, and is weaned off a ventilator and trach. The extent of her recovery is unknown and her future needs are uncertain.
Race day is Saturday, November 19 at 9am in Orland Park. The fee is $25 before 11/10 and $30 the day off. Please see the website for registration and more details. www.everystepcounts5k.com
Let me know if you think you'd like to do it!
