Matsumura Shorin Ryu Karate of Oak Lawn Dedicated to providing practical self defense training through one of the original styles of Okinawa Iaido 6:30-730pm

Our teachers have taught many students from local schools and colleges, as well as personnel from local/federal law enforcement agencies and private security companies. Shorin Ryu was developed in Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate. This particular style of Karate can be traced back to Sokon “Bushi” Matsumura, a famed bodyguard of the King of Okinawa in the mid 1800’s. Training includes traditional

Okinawan katas and their practical applications, Self Defense techniques, Body Hardening, Takedowns & Joint Locks, Board Breaking and controlled Free Sparring. We incorporate the Okinawan weapons martial art of Kobudo in our curriculum for advanced students. Weapons include Staff/Bo, Sai, Tonfa, Kamas (sickle) and Nunchaku. Sign up is required through the Oak Lawn Park District at the Oak Lawn Pavilion or online at olparks.com
***Due to some mature elements, class is only available to ages 13 & Up

We also teach a Japanese Swordsmanship art known as Iaido, or Way of Drawing the Sword, right before our Karate class on Thursdays. Classes are 11 week sessions through the Oak Lawn Park District and are Thursdays nights.
