APRIL 17, 2026 • PIER REOPENING

As of Friday, April 17, 2026, the end of the Oak Island Pier has been partially reopened, amid ongoing construction to replace a damaged piling. The new piling has been secured in place, with only the final cross bracing needing to be installed.

Some additional materials will be needed for completion, which are expected to arrive early next week. In the meantime, the end of the Pier, include ALL of the King Fishing Stations are now available to access.

Please note, barricades may be put in place to restrict access certain areas or equipment. Please use caution when passing this area and DO NOT cross the barricade for ANY reason (if assistance is needed in the area, see a Pier Attendant for help).

Once the work resumes next week, some additional, but temporary re-closures of the area may be needed while the final cross-bracing is installed. Daily updates will be posted as the work continues to move towards completion.

To follow updates, and view work as it happens on the PierCam, visit the Oak Island Pier page at OakIslandNC.gov/PIER.

APRIL 9, 2026 - PILING PROGRESS

Over the past week crews have been hard at work, prepping the area near the end of the Pier for installation of the new piling! Unfortunately, due to high winds and rough waters this week, work is being paused until next week.

In the meantime, more than 700' of the front section of the Pier AND Pier House are both still OPEN.

Limited Beach Access is still available through the Pier itself, but those carrying beach equipment or with mobility impairments ahould use the nearby Access Locations at Barbee Blvd and Keziah Street (handicap access).

As a reminder, updates on this project will be provided on our webpage, where progress can also be watched on the Oak Island PierCam at OakIslandNC.gov/PIER

MARCH 20, 2026 • PARTIAL CLOSURE NOTICE

Apologies for the inconvenience and short notice, as we close the end of the Pier and Beach Access Location for the next couple of weeks, to allow for a piling replacement.

We originally anticipated to begin construction sometime later this month, but materials (including a brand new 60-FOOT piling!) were thankfully delivered earlier than expected, so contractors are ready to start TODAY!
And if you know about this type of construction, then you know you don't keep a contractor waiting! 😄

In the meantime, more than 700' of Pier and the Pier House are still OPEN and available to enjoy -- and if you can't be here in person, you can always watch the progress on the PierCam at OakIslandNC.gov/PIER

MARCH 20, 2026 • PIER CONSTRUCTION NOTICE

Starting TODAY (Friday) the end section of the Oak Island Pier, including all King Fishing Stations, will be CLOSED to the public for approximately 2-3 weeks, to allow for the complete replacement of a damaged piling towards the end of the Pier

Additionally, the Beach Access Location between the Pier and the 801 Ocean Event Center will also be CLOSED, to allow for equipment and materials staging.

Originally anticipated to begin sometime later this month, an earlier than expected delivery of materials has allowed contractors to begin immediately on the replacement project.

During this time, the Pier House and more than 700’ in the front section of the Pier will remain OPEN. Limited Beach Access will still be available through the steps on the pier itself, but those carrying beach equipment or with mobility impairments should use the nearby Access Locations at Barbee Blvd. and Keziah Street (handicap access).

Updates on this project will be provided on the Oak Island Pier webpage, where progress can also be visually seen on the Oak Island PierCam at OakIslandNC.gov/PIER
