After a great deal of careful consideration, being hopeful, and the most recent restrictions with the new CDC and Washington state rulings, it is with sadness that we will be canceling/postponing the Deception Pass Marathon & Half scheduled for April 4, 2020. We will also most likely be canceling/postponing the Orcas Island races, unless restrictions are lifted by the State in the coming weeks (that is possible and we will continue to update and make a final decision regarding Orcas Island in a couple weeks). As the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to spread throughout the communities where we all live and work, we must keep the safety and health of our runners, volunteers, and the greater community members, our top priority.
We know you have all been training hard for this event, as we have been working hard for the event as well. We understand there will be those who are upset. But we hope that during this time of uncertainty, you all find encouragement and look for a bright spot in this tough situation.
We appreciate your patience as we are currently working on the next steps. With information changing on a daily basis, we may not have details for a rescheduled date for some time, or if we will even be allowed to reschedule. We will keep you all updated as the details unfold via our website and other outlets. Please rest assured that regardless of what happens in the weeks to come, we will be offering all our registered Deception Pass runners a 100% transfer of their funds paid to another one of our Destination Trail races in 2020 or 2021.
We hope in the next few weeks we see the curve flatten, improved health, and many businesses returning to normal operations. In the meantime, stay positive, enjoy your loved ones, read a good book, exercise, find a new recipe, facetime a friend, dance, sing, find a new hobby, and most importantly, support and love.
