BREAKING: Federal judge slams the door on Trump’s voter suppression scheme: “The president gets no say.”

Another day, another Trump power grab smacked down by the Constitution.

In a blistering rebuke, a federal judge permanently blocked key parts of Donald Trump’s sweeping anti-voting executive order—calling it not just illegal, but a direct threat to democracy.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly didn’t hedge or mince words. She reminded Trump of a basic civics lesson he’s spent years trying to erase: the President has no authority over election rules. None. Nada. Zero. Zilch.

“The Framers of our Constitution recognized that power over election rules could be abused,” she wrote, warning that such power could be used to “disempower the people.” That’s why the Constitution gives that authority to the states and Congress—not to a would-be strongman in the Oval Office.

Trump’s executive order tried to do exactly what voter suppression advocates have dreamed of for decades: make it harder to register, harder to stay registered, and easier to quietly block eligible voters—especially students, seniors, low-income Americans, and voters of color.

Among the provisions the judge permanently halted: Trump’s attempt to force federal agencies to “assess citizenship” before handing out voter registration forms, and his demand for documentary proof of citizenship for military and overseas voters. Both, the court said, were flatly unconstitutional.

“Put simply,” Kollar-Kotelly wrote, “our Constitution does not allow the President to impose unilateral changes to federal election procedures.”

That sentence alone should be tattooed on the inside of Trump’s executive pen, or, better yet, on one of those bruised hands of his.

This ruling comes after multiple courts had already slapped temporary injunctions on parts of the order. But this time, the block is permanent—thanks to lawsuits brought by the Democratic Party, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the League of Women Voters.

Trump’s goal was never “election integrity.” It was control. Conditioning election funding. Targeting mail ballots. Weaponizing bureaucracy to thin the electorate.

And now, once again, the courts have said no. The Constitution held. Voters won. And Trump was reminded—yet again—that in America, the presidency is not a throne, and democracy does not bend to executive tantrums.
