Jon Logan Memorial Triathlon & Open Water Swim

The Jon Logan Memorial Triathlon struggles to get off the ground again due to the HOA reluctance to allow the FAST Swim and Triathlon club to conduct the race in their subdivision once again. We do need more residents to request their HOA leaders to allow us to do the race; possibly in 2027.

In the meantime we would like to know if you would pay for an alternative at Island Lake State Park this summer. We could approach ILSP and see if they will allow us to conduct a one day, one time "Triathlon Training Event" at Kent Lake Parking Lot one Saturday or Sunday in July or early August.

FAST would set up swim buoys in Kent Lake, have open bike racks just off the beach, and then have an aid station or two on a run route. We would charge each participant and we would have lifeguards on the swim route. We can also even give an OWS clinic prior to the workout.

The morning of the workout would be structured to be an assisted, self timed workout for all participants.

You workout out when and how far you want. You can do it as a group or individually. You can swim in Kent Lake to practice your OWS skills. Then the bike racks would be the same as you would see at a triathlon. You then practice your T1 set up and proceed to bike your own distance through ILSP and/or Kensington. Then we would have an aid station for you on a run route.

We would have support out there for the morning.

Are you interested in buying this type of organized workout event? If so, please comment if you are interested in signing up for this replacement of a 2026 Jon Logan Memorial Triathlon. If we get good response we will approach ILSP to see if they will secure a permit for us.

Presently the island lakes of novi subdivision board of directors denied our request to hold the triathlon this year. A new president of the board will be elected this year, maybe next year?

Given this, who would be interested if our club, FAST, would hold a triathlon training event at Island lake State Park one or two Saturdays this summer. We would have life guards, swimming instruction, official bike racks at Kent lake and a water station. You could come and train for your race but with support and education.

I've just called the island lakes of novi HOA president and we might know later this week if they will allow us to hold the race this year. If you are a resident in that community please reach out to the board requesting that they allow the race for this year

We have submitted information to the HOA within the Island Lake of Novi subdivision (names and comments about who would like to see the return of the sprint triathlon). We would like Home Owners that are in the complex to contact their HOA requesting that we bring back the Triathlon in the sub, as well. Also, reach out to your neighbors, who might be new, and didn't know about the triathlon and see if they might want to do it.

We need grass roots support to the HOA in the complex. Thank you to those that live there. We love your sub for this event.

In a recent discussion with the Island Lake of Novi’s Home Owners President, FAST reopened the discussion of doing the Jon Logan Triathlon Memorial Triathlon again.
One of his questions was how many people that live in the large group of homes or condos in that complex would like the possibility of competing again. His concern was if nobody in the HOA group would not participate then it would not benefit any of their home owners. We need this to approach the general board of directors to discuss if we could hold this grand event in the near future.

You are invited to bring your items to a FAST Sponsored Gear Swap. Do some spring cleaning and find out what you might want to sell/trade and find out what is missing to get lightly used gear at this event.

When: May 17th at 6:30 pm
