The team secured their first win of the season tonight, beating Purcell 201-223! Some highlights from tonight:

1. We had three players score in the 40’s tonight. Judd Arthur- 45, Kevin Dang- 45, Hayden Sheppard- 48.
2. Joel “Spike” Raber, in his first year of golf and his sixth match of his career, had his score taken tonight (one of our top 4 performers). Huge congratulations goes out to our sophomore, who has made great strides this season.
3. Judd Arthur chipped in from a short-sided green to save par on the second hole at Reeves.

Very proud of this group of young men tonight. I usually give my more veteran teams a goal of breaking 200 every match. This team, with one returning golfer from last year, two joining us from a season away from the team last year, and four that are brand new at the game, finished today with a 201. A large improvement from our 237 shot in our first match.

We will be going for our second win of the week tomorrow facing Reading at The Mill Course, first tee time at 3:10.

Our golf team had a goal yesterday of finishing the Reading Inviatational with a team score under 215 strokes. We finished with a 209! This goal was largely led by Hayden Sheppard and Judd Arthur! Hayden finished the day with a 45, while Judd improved his play by 13 strokes from the day before to shoot a 50.

I am proud of this group of young men! Only one in the group of six in the picture below golfed last year. We are learning every day and showed major improvements every week over the summer and it is showing in this first week of the season. This is the best part of coaching, watching the light bulb start to flicker, and teaching perserverance the whole way!

We made huge strides from our score of 237 from the previous day. I fully expect to see that light bulb shining bright by the season’s end!

Batavia defeats Norwood tonight, 196-237.

The medalist for Norwood was Hayden Sheppard, who shot a 50 at a challenging Elks Run. We look forward to see how the sophomore keeps improving from his impressive freshman year.

Next up for Norwood is the Reading Invitational. An exciting event that always is a blast to open up the season with. Norwood will compete against many other schools for the right to be the Reading Invitational champs.

Match day!! The Norwood golf team is thrilled to start the Norwood athletic season today with a match against Batavia at Elks Run Golf Course. The first group will tee off at 2:30pm. Follow along for any and all information for this match, and every match this season!
