A lot of jiu-jitsu students, even longtime ones, are unaware of Marcio Stambowsky’s role in popularizing the triangle choke in BJJ. His instructor Rolls Gracie found the technique in an old judo book and thought of Marcio immediately. Marcio added it to his game and went on a competitive tear in Rio, and almost 50 years later the triangle is one of the most popular finishes in the submission world.
50 years is a long time, and Marcio was able to develop some variations that are still slept on in greater BJJ. There’s one in this video.
On the Joe Rogan Experience Episode 524, Rickson Gracie named Marcio "Macarrao" Stambowsky as one of the original BJJ competitors to use the triangle choke. ...
