For any given attacking position Mae sure you more than one option. Now matter good the position and no matter how well you ca perform a single attack from there - the moment you become predictable is the moment your attacks become defendable. Make sure you have a minimum of two (three or four is better yet) strong attacks from your major attacking positions. That optionality will be worth its weight in gold when you are matched against tough opponents

One of the defining features of Jiu Jitsu is the ability to control and subdue greater strength and aggression with lesser strength and aggression. This requires the use of mechanical and positional advantage of it is to be done successfully. The two greatest methods of avoiding an opponent’s strength will always be to get behind an opponent (the human body is well adapted to apply its strength to objects in front of it, but poorly adapted to apply strength to objects behind it) and to get past your opponent’s legs and hips (the legs and hips are basis of human strength). Do these two things consistently and you’ll have an excellent chance to subdue greater strength.

Once you create one threat - you create many: It can feel impossible to get any attacks started on a good opponent. It feels like you’re attacking castle walls. Yet once you can bring one strong attack to bear, your opponent must react, and suddenly that wall of defense feels easy to breach. That reaction must involve movement that inevitably creates new opportunities to attack. Don’t despair when your attacks feel fruitless. Take heart in the knowledge that just one good attack ca turn everything around in an instant. From a technical point of view, work hard in a few attacks to develop your breakthrough weapons and then be ready to take advantage of the openings they create - that’s the pattern of winning Jiu Jitsu!
