I never imagined writing a post like this about a place that has meant so much to my life.
My heart is heavy as I reflect on the tragedy that has struck the Brown University community. Brown is far more than a campus to me — it is a place that shaped my values, challenged my thinking, and taught me the meaning of belonging. Brown changed my life.
As a former three-sport athlete at Brown, I experienced the strength of this community in a deeply personal way. The bonds we built — across teams, classrooms, and shared experiences — were rooted in trust, mutual support, and the belief that we look out for one another. Those bonds do not disappear in moments of crisis; they are tested, and they matter now more than ever.
Our immediate focus must be on supporting the families who have lost loved ones and standing with the students, faculty, and staff who are processing grief, trauma, and loss. We must show up with compassion, patience, and presence. But we also cannot allow this moment to pass without resolve. Tragedies like this demand that we come together — as a university community and as a society — to pursue meaningful solutions that help prevent senseless violence and protect places meant for learning, growth, and possibility.
I stand with Brown. I grieve with those affected. And I believe honoring those we lost requires both caring for one another now and the courage to work toward lasting change.
Ever True!
