Born August 29, 1981, in Třebíč, Czechoslovakia, Martin Erat became a dependable Czech right winger whose professional career stretched from 1999 to 2020. Nashville selected him 191st overall in the 1999 NHL Draft, and he went on to spend most of his NHL career with the Predators before also playing for the Washington Capitals and Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes.

Erat developed into a reliable offensive contributor in Nashville, reaching 57 points in both 2006–07 and 2007–08. He later continued his career in the KHL and Czech Extraliga, helping Kometa Brno win a championship in 2017 after a 51-year wait. Internationally, he represented the Czech Republic at four Olympic Games and won bronze at the 2006 Turin Olympics.

He later played for Edmonton, Ottawa, Dallas and Montreal during a professional career that lasted from 2002 to 2018.

Hemský produced his best NHL season in 2005–06, recording 77 points while helping Edmonton reach the Stanley Cup Final. He later became a key international player for the Czech Republic, winning World Championship gold in 2005 and Olympic bronze in 2006. After 845 NHL games, 174 goals and 572 points, he officially retired from professional hockey in 2020.

Petr Klíma — The Czech Rebel Who Scored a Stanley Cup Classic 🏒🏆

Born December 23, 1964, in Chomutov, Czechoslovakia, Petr Klíma became a Czech professional winger whose remarkable journey took him from behind the Iron Curtain to the NHL. Detroit selected him 86th overall in the 1983 NHL Draft, and he arrived in North America in 1985 after defecting from Czechoslovakia. Klíma wore No. 85 throughout his NHL career as a personal reminder of that pivotal year.

His defining NHL moment came with the Edmonton Oilers in the 1990 Stanley Cup Final. In Game 1 against the Boston Bruins, Klíma scored in the third overtime to give Edmonton the victory in what remains the longest game in Stanley Cup Final history. He went on to win the Stanley Cup that year and later played for Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh before finishing his playing career in Europe. Klíma died in Chomutov on May 4, 2023, at age 58.

The 6-foot-3 left-shooting forward was selected 17th overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2012 NHL Draft after developing with HC Slavia Praha. He made his NHL debut in 2013 and became the first player born in the modern Czech Republic after the breakup of Czechoslovakia to appear in an NHL game.

The Montreal Canadiens selected him 71st overall in the 2001 NHL Draft, and after developing in the AHL, he established himself as a full-time NHL player in 2005–06. Most of his career was spent in Montreal, where his two-way play, defensive awareness and consistency made him a trusted part of the lineup.

Plekanec reached 1,000 NHL games in 2018 and finished with 1,001 regular-season appearances, 608 points and 94 playoff games. His best NHL season came in 2009–10, when he produced 70 points. He also represented the Czech Republic at multiple World Championships and Olympic Games, earning World Championship silver in 2006 and bronze medals in 2011 and 2012. After his NHL retirement, he continued playing in the Czech Republic before ending his playing career in 2023 and later joining Czech hockey management and coaching.

Martin Ručinský — The Czech Star Who Conquered the NHL 🏒🇨🇿

Born March 11, 1971, in Most, Czechoslovakia, Martin Ručinský became one of the most accomplished Czech forwards of his generation. The left winger was selected 20th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1991 NHL Draft, but his rights soon moved to the Quebec Nordiques. His 16-season NHL career eventually included stops with several major clubs, including Montreal, Dallas, New York, St. Louis and Vancouver.

Ručinský reached the 600-point mark during his NHL career and finished with 612 regular-season points from 961 games. His international résumé was even more decorated, as he helped the Czech Republic win Olympic gold in 1998 and three World Championship gold medals. He remained active professionally until 2015, making him the last former Quebec Nordiques player still playing professionally before his retirement. In 2019, he was inducted into the Czech Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
