Saturday is striking day at North Coast!

We had a great turnout for the kids class. We worked a # of punching combinations. Reaghan signed up for the trial and Dad got her set up with her gi and MMA gloves! How cool is that?

Coach Kyle worked the adults through some mechanics as well as some light sparring.

Having a tool kit for the early, standing portion of a fight is important, and a lot of fun to learn as well.

Did you know that NC runs a 10am class 6 days a week? Every day but Friday. We had a fun class this AM working a guard pass into side control and into some submission options.

We were happy to award Gary stripe #4 today. Gary has been with us since the beginning. Super loyal, always posting about his positive experience with us. Just a great guy. Can’t wait to award that Purple strap before too long.

We teach all aspects of self defense here at North Coast JJC.

Grappling of course. And also striking. Basic striking skills are critical, especially in the early phases of a confrontation.

We run adult striking Tuesday 6pm and Saturday 10am. Today Coach Kyle ran the team through some footwork and striking work on the pads.

Important for self defense, fun, and a great workout too!

Great first day back from the short Holiday break.

We worked some effective striking combinations in our 6pm kickboxing class

Then in the 7pm Jiu-Jitsu class we covered some guard control concepts, followed by a few fun sweeps.

TOURNAMENT DAY at North Coast JJC.

We ran our in-house Adult tournament today at NC. We had approximately 25 students sign up and commit to competing.

We had some great matches. We saw some good Jiu Jitsu and great sportsmanship as well. We have some action shots, as well as a group shot, shown here

Our winners were as follows:

Ladies bracket: Nicole and Gillian tied for 1st. They battled to a 8-8 tie and smartly opted to NOT go to overtime.

White belt: Nate took the division with some slick takedowns and good base made him hard to sweep

Blue belt: Trent won a stacked blue belt division. Solid wins against a tough field

Purple belt: We went round robin. We declared it a 3 way tie between Rocco, Rick, and Ben.

Great job to all competitors!

Fun night at NC.

Our 6pm kids class is focused on live rolling. We vary the match ups, and the starting positions. The kids have a riot as they learn to execute under “match conditions”.

Our 7pm adult class focuses on some more advanced moves and concepts. We worked a variety of submission chains from the closed guard tonight.

We’ve got a crop of “killer blue belts” in our stable. 2 of these killers earned stripes tonight. Congratulations to James and Marco on their promotions!!

ADULT TEST DAY AT NORTH COAST JJC!!

Test days are always special. It’s a long path for each belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Usually 2-4 years of intense, consistent training.

Today we were happy to promote 5 members to Blue belt.

Congratulations to Mark and Noah (father and son which is extra awesome), Paul, Junior, and Anthony on earning those new straps today.

Under Pedro Sauer, we test for belts. Coach Kyle ran the guys through an hour + long exam. This consists of approximately 100 moves / techniques.

The guys killed the exam. They had been studying on their own, and scheduling sessions with Coach Kyle. Their dedicated preparations paid dividends, as we concluded it was one of the tightest Blue belts tests that we had ever seen.

Please congratulate the guys the next time that you see them in class!!
