Let’s go boys! First varsity match of the season is Thursday. Home match vs two of the top teams in the state: Freeport and Fryeburg Academy. Clippers put in the work all summer, and they are ready for the season. Big things to come in 2026!

Do you want to learn more about the high school golf season? Yarmouth Golf Boosters is here to help! A deep dive for those interested…

Varsity matches are stroke play, and six golfers from each school participate in the official match. The top four scores (out of the six players) are totaled for the team score.

In order to increase participation, some matches may offer the chance for exhibition rounds. This would allow up to four additional Yarmouth golfers (beyond the starting six) to participate in a varsity exhibition match that same day.

Regular season matches are most often played against one or two other schools. Adult supervisors / coaches are on the course to monitor scoring and rules. No caddies. Girls play from the red tees and boys play from the whites (note: this is different than the summer tournament circuit where older junior golfers play from farther back).

The varsity team will participate in eight regular season matches before playoffs begin around October 1. Spectators are allowed for playoff matches but must remain 50 feet away from golfers at all times. No caddies. Officials from MPA + Maine Golf are located throughout the course. Playoff structure:

Yarmouth will have the opportunity to compete in Class B Regionals at Natanis Golf Course. The varsity team of six goes to regionals, but if we have a strong regular season, Yarmouth may be able to bring up to 10 golfers to this event. The best teams and individuals at regionals will qualify for the state championship match back at Natanis in mid-October.

Another big day: The Western Maine Conference Regular-Season Championship is a match between the top four teams in the WMC (the teams with the best regular-season scores are invited to play). The winner of the match is named WMC regular-season champ!

We’re very excited to have two very competitive girl golfers on our team! WMC is hosting regular-season girls matches this fall, and the girls regional championship and state qualifier will be held on 9/30 at Willowdale Golf Course.

There will be a very competitive JV schedule, and we’re also grateful to Maine Golf for offering a Developmental League for golfers who did not make the YHS team. Yarmouth continues to see a record number of excellent golfers trying out every season.
