The cheerleaders practice on Sundays throughout the fall to prepare for the season, and conditioning is one of the things we focus on. Today, our conditioning took on a much deeper meaning as the girls participated in our annual 9/11 stair climb.

The cheerleaders are only asked to do what they can and then push themselves just a little further. There is no pressure to finish. When the climb gets difficult, they are reminded of the police officers, firefighters, first responders, and civilians who climbed the stairs of the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001.

That day, those stairwells were filled with smoke, fire, fear, and uncertainty. Some people were trying to escape while others were climbing upward to help. Thousands of people never made it home.

Our stair climb is only a small gesture, but it gives us an opportunity to pause and remember the lives lost in New York City, at the Pentagon, and aboard United Flight 93. We also remember the heroes who ran toward danger, the families who were forever changed, and the many people who later lost their lives to illnesses connected to their work at Ground Zero.

We climb to remember.
We climb to honor.
We climb so we never forget. 🇺🇸
