Recently Dave sent an email to his pitchers that reflected on a recent article by Amanda Scarborough that is really great! Thought everyone would like to have a read!!!
From Dave: AMANDA SCARBOROUGH is an ELITE PITCHER and now an ELITE INSTRUCTOR! I have shared with many of you her video that is still out there, FAST PITCH PITCHING IN SLOW MOTION!! It is the best pitching video I have ever seen.
Today I read an article that AMANDA posted and it is exactly what I have been encouraging all of you to do for years! I am going to share some exerts from her latest post:
Amanda Scarborough: How do you Learn to Master Pitching
1. From age 9-14 Amanda says she spent more time doing drills in front of a mirror and pitching without a ball than pitching or practicing from full distance.
2. She said that she learned to know exactly where my body was supposed to be and what it should do during the pitch without a ball in her hands.
3. She did it so much that she could feel when something is off..
4. She practiced 4-5 days a week with purpose to get it down correctly
She concluded by saying that to be an elite pitcher you have to make a commitment to practice, pay attention to details, do things that others feel are boring and have the patience to get it right!!
I am so lucky to have so many of you who do what Amanda encourages. So many of my Ohio State Champions bought into it like, Carter Wachtel last year and others like Sydney Campbell, Kenzie Conrad, Tess Sito and of course, Amie Leffew. So many more are doing it now and will eventually have your own State Championship and go on to play in college.
Amanda's system is simple and it works. Our system is also simple and works and is very similar to Amanda's. With the lack of very much of an off season anymore, it is so important for you to find time to get better, not by just pitching in games, but through working to get better. Do things without a ball like Amanda, Amie, Sydney, Carter and so many others did and are doing it today.
