Folgo JiuJitsu Grand Opening November 1, 2022 Gene is a fourth degree black belt under Michael Jen. Gene also founded the Stanford Grappling Club in 2008. Come train with Gene!

He earned his third degree from Professor Jen, his second degree from Jean Jacques Machado, and his first degree from Marco Nascimento. He has been teaching jiujitsu continuously since then. Gene has led successful programs at multiple gyms. His focus is on developing students on and off of the mat using jiujitsu as a vehicle for personal growth. His deep experience as a teacher, coach, competitor

and practitioner is great opportunity for all students regardless of goals or current skill level. As a competitor he is an America’s Cup Gold medalist and a Pan American Silver Medalist. Gene has competed at all levels of his BJJ studies. His most notable tournament victories include:
A GOLD MEDAL at the 2008 America’s Cup;
SILVER MEDALS at the 2008 and 2009 U.S. Open, and the 2009 Pan American Championship
AND A BRONZE MEDAL at the 2008 American National Championship. History and Lineage:

1997 Begin study at Brown University

1999 Blue Belt from Geoff Balme of Gracie Barra Boston at Brown University BJJ Club

2001 move to Arizona, begin training with Gustavo Dantas of Nova Uniao

2004 Purple Belt Gustavo Dantas

2007 Brown Belt Gustavo Dantas

2008 move to California, begin training with Marco Nascimento of Pitbull Gracie Barra

2010 Black Belt, Adilson “Bitta” Lima, and Marco Nascimento

Gene teaches afternoon and evening classes for adults and evening classes for kids.
