The Points payout for a Racing Series is the heart of the series. A flawed points payout results in an illogical and illegitimate Series Champion. The entire purpose of a Series is to determine the best all-around racer over the course of the Championship. Consistency, speed, and overall wins should determine the Series Champion. A logical points system achieves this goal.
The Dialed-RC-X Championship Points System is based off of Super Motocross (SMX), but modified to work with the number of entries we receive at a typical RC Racing Series. In SMX, 1st place receives 25 points, 2nd receives 22 points, 3rd receives 20 points, 4th receives 18 points, etc. In our Series, we multiply that by 4 and award 1st place 100 points so points are paid out to more than just the top 21 finishers. If we multiply second place's 22 points by 4, that equals 88 points, meaning first place receives 12 more points than second place. This is the standard points spread for every other type of racing series, except in RC Series. The typical RC Series still uses a 30+ year old ROAR points payout of 1 point for TQ, 100 points for 1st, 99 points for 2nd, 98 points for 3rd, and so on. The reason for this basic payout, which doesn't reward 1st place with any bonus points, is claimed to keep the racing close. However, having a 1 point spread between every position makes it very hard to overcome a large point gap. But because our points payout allows for big point swings after each round, you are never out of contention until the very last round is completed.
The traditional RC series points system payout is flawed because it offers no bonus points for winning main events. Because of this flaw, the following examples are possible in a best 4 of 6 Round Series:
Racer A could TQ & Win Round 1, finish 2nd and take TQ at Round 2-4, and skip Round 5 and Round 6, giving them 401 total points for the year without any drops.
That would still give them 401 points after dropping the two worst rounds, which in this case was 0 points.
Racer B could get 2nd at Round 1, and finish 1st at Rounds 2-6, giving them 599 total points without drops.
With two drops of a 100 and a 99, they would finish with a total of 400 Points and lose the Championship to Racer A by 1 point.
In no other form of racing would someone who wins 4 out of the best 4 rounds lose the Championship to someone who won only one main event during the year. And in this case, the winner would have only 1 win, while second place would have 5 wins for the year. The winner would also have two DNS/DNF results for the year, and second place would have zero DNS/DNF results. In our opinion, and based on a poll conducted at the beginning of the year, this outcome makes no sense at all.
In this same scenario but using the DIALED-RC-X Points payout you would get the following result:
Racer A would have 395 total Points without drops, and 395 with two drops.
Racer B would have 597 points without drops, and 400 points after the 2 drops of 100 and 97.
So in this case, Racer B would be your Series Champion, finishing with 5 more points than Racer A. Racer B would be Champion, having dominated the entire series by winning 5 of 6 rounds and taking P2 in the 6th Round. We feel this is common sense and a logical point system that should be in place in every RC Series worldwide as soon as possible.
We are confident in our point payout system, and believe that 99%+ who compete in it will agree with it. It will provide a close, fair, and logical points race that everyone will enjoy.
We look forward to seeing everyone there at Round 1 on September 25th, 2026!
