It has taken sometime to think about how to handle the current situation we are faced with here at BRR . I spend many nights trying to figure out how to please certain customers and have come up with the following to make my life easier and less stressful . From today forward all the work I take in will be closely considered before it is taken in to the shop . When I give a time frame , it maybe longer than you want to wait but if you cannot wait send the reel to another shop . I have been very fortunate to have some great customers and I will continue to service those . It takes time to do reels correctly , if you do not want to wait there is other options in the area . If you call or text me it is quite possible I will not get back to you for a day or so , if you keep calling you will be asked to pickup your reel and go elsewhere . If you require a " Rush Job" it will be charged accordingly . If you require a rush job and get the bill when complete and never pick up the reel and do not pick the reel up the reel will be sold in 30 days of the phone call . Lastly I have put my heart in soul into BRR for the past 13 plus years with many sleepless nights to help area fishermen continue to fish . Because of the current state of the business and select few customers who will not play by the rules I have stated I am forced to limit all future work to a part time business for select few customers who still care about quality workmanship . Rant over, time for me to enjoy my hobbies .

Newer Penn 130 fished a few seasons customer stated " reel skips out of gear under load" , well maybe if Penn would lock tight the low speed gear retainer screws this reel would have been fine . I have 4 more to service like this one and you bet those to will come completely apart as do all reels that come through . The money is in the details here at Beavertail Rod And Reel .

To all of my loyal customers , I have heard from different people that they are concerned about the future of our little business , Beavertail Rod And Reel . Well I wanted to post this to explain our current state of the business . As you may or may not know , in my past life before BRR I was a Tool And Diemaker for the past 30 years of my life , 10 years ago I took the leap of faith to create Beavertail Rod And Reel . I have been very successful but the reality is because we live in a disposable world where it is easier to throw reels away than to repair them it has become very hard to service some reels and actually make money doing so . I have raised pricing and have dropped quite a few customers , I have heard from many that "Dave is to expensive" I have dealt with those who hound me that they need there reels only to have them sit for weeks and in some cases years because they feel why pay the money for an old reel when that money could go towards another new reel . As you can imagine this would wear on any business , after all over the years I have put money out in parts and labor only to have someone not pickup there gear . This kind of thing continues to happen more and more making it very hard to sustain . Recently I was offered a well paying job teaching the trade of Machining and introduction of CNC machining at a local college , I accepted this position as a part time position ! We are in week 9 or a 19 week program and the joy I get from working with those who are looking to break into the trade is just unexplainable . So from this point forward Beavertail Rod And Reel will run as a part time repair shop offering the same service we have for the past 10 years , we will also be launching our line of custom fly tying vises under Nor'East vise works . I will be pulling away from lower priced reels as those seem to be the ones that I end up storing for years . To our offshore and highwe end reel customers we will continue to offer services to you and others during this time . Please know this was a hard decision but the alternative was to close the business completely and I realized there alot of area customers who still know what great work is worth . Thank you all for everything during the past 10 years .

As 2025 approaches, Beavertail Rod and Reel will commemorate 10 years of operation as a full-time rod and reel repair shop. Over the past decade, our business has experienced its share of challenges and successes, akin to any small enterprise, but we have consistently navigated difficulties and found solutions. In recent years, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, our shop, along with others in the industry, has encountered a significant decline in the availability of replacement parts for lower-end reels (priced $50.00 and below) and older models, as well as certain higher-end reels. It is essential to acknowledge that we live in a "throw-away" society. These changes have necessitated strategic business decisions to ensure the long-term viability of Beavertail Rod and Reel, a business that I have invested over a decade of my life in building. Effective immediately, reels valued at $60.00 or less will not be accepted for repair unless clients understand that the cost of labor may exceed the reel's value. Clients will be required to sign an agreement and provide a deposit to cover labor expenses. This measure is crucial to ensuring that our operational costs are covered. We will continue to cater to our offshore clients, but repairs for older reels will be subject to prior discussion. As our industry changes it is necessary to make changes . I have been working for sometime to find ways to continue to feed my need for creativeness and still do what I enjoy . With this being said I would like to introduce our new division , Nor'East Viseworks !
We will be ramping up production on our well received custom fly tying vise as well as other fishing related products . I am excited about these changes and stay tuned as we continue to build on this . Lastly Thank you to all who have allowed us to get to this point and lets make 2025 a huge year .

I want to take this time to wish all of our great customers Happy Holidays . 2024 started off on a high note but as we close in on the holidays we have experienced a huge loss of my role model and the man who is responsible for my success today , RIP Lee Morton/ Dad . As we move into 2025 I am excited for the changes on tap . Stay tuned as we finalize some plans for our future . Until then please hold those close to you tight as we never know when those loved ones will move on .
