In the early 20th century, the US Government tried to prohibit the drinking of alcohol, but of course it never worked: The drinkers went underground, into establishments called Speakeasies. Now think of the current situation with COVID:
Kids are practicing in basements and backyards, alone or with “trusted friends”, but, God forbid, not on teams. The nets on tennis courts have been removed, there are weeds in the middles of the soccer fields, and the hoops on basketball courts are gone. Gyms are closed.
Did we give up working out, practicing our sports, or watching sports on TV and on the Web? No, we're working harder to stay in shape, walking and cycling, and quietly, secretly, privately getting togehter with our own "trusted friends" to play our sports. Personally, I drive 3 hours to play on my friend’s private squash court, because there is no public squash available.
Just like in prohibition, we've gone underground.
It is more clear than ever that there needs to be a change in the way people get their sports info, be in their sports communities, train to stay in shape, and stay ready to compete when this whole COVID thing abates. Every day that goes by with a sports facility shuttered, with a soccer field or baseball diamond growing weeds, and kids still home from school, the more we look back on the past six months and wonder when it will end, and how can we wait any more to rise up against it?
Check out UBsports.com, and get back to working out, however you can, wherever you are, whatever makeshift stuff you have available. Even a couple gallons of milk will do wonders!
COVID 19 DOES NOT MEAN THE 19 POUNDS YOU'VE GAINED SINCE MARCH!!
