I love the water, I actually have better body mechanics in water than I do on land, lol. I hold a degree in sports science – adapted physical education from LIU and had certification through The American Red Cross as a Water Safety instructor. Over my 20 years of teaching, I developed a cooperative approach to teaching where my students participate in the direction of their lessons. My curriculum
is tailored to each child; Every child learns and interacts differently and should be provided an environment where they can flourish. It is a lack of communication that prevents a student at any age from learning and being able to overcome the hurdles that they are facing. I have learned so much from my prior students and I hope to share that knowledge with those of you who decided to swim with me. I’ve received quite a few inquiries from parents of children ranging in age from 6 months to 5 years who have been having difficulty finding and or getting their children into a class and or lessons. Mommy & Me classes are to create positive feelings in and around the water for your child. It is primarily a class for the parent to learn how to deal with their child in an aquatic environment and foster a positive association with the water. If you have fun during bath time, you’re on track! Remember, your child looks to you for cues on how to behave and react. If you are anxious, nervous and scared your child will be too. With every growth spurt it is a brand-new body! Your child will experience changes in coordination and will have to adjust accordingly. If you haven’t started lessons yet but have introduced your child to the water and engage in safe fun, then you’re on track too! Swimming is much more than learning strokes; I tell all of my students that my job is not to teach you how to swim it is to show you how your body works and to listen to what it is telling you. I hope this addresses the general inquiries and if you have specific questions feel free to text me directly. Best Regards,
Jamila
