2/3 Recap

It was another EPIC week of street hockey. The longest game in FPSHL history was played - over 2+ hours to get the first game (to 15) completed!

The team of Bill Welch, Shawn Hogan, Rich McGrath, Rob Campbell, Todd Heino, Bob Duffy, Dana Sandquist, Chris Rivers, and the Commish grinder out a win over a significantly more talented team. The FPSHL version of David vs Goliath........

Hard Hat Award - Rich McGrath (intense forechecking led to a couple of key goals)
"McCock Block" Award - Shawn Hogan (his stellar play in net was critical to the win)
Goal of the Week - Bob Duffy (his supple hands and shifty footwork provided an early lead)

Weekly Fines:

Todd Heino - for playing the Whitney Houston version of the National Anthem ($10)
Bill Welch - for turnover leading directly to goal, throwing stick after the turnover AND then not closing the fence door (safety) after retrieving his stick ($30)
The Commish - throwing his stick after no one back checked ($10)
Scott Erlich - for all around poor play (detrimental to the team - now known as "the Sandquist") ($10)
Scott Erlich - for the huge Marsala sauce stain on his shirt at post game dinner ($10)
The Commish - for walking into the restaurant kitchen thinking it was the bathroom at post game dinner ($10)
Joe Vella - turnover for a goal ($10)
Scott Pearsons - turnover for a goal AND missed empty net ($20) PAID
Russ Berardi - missed empty net ($10)
Dan Morse - for pussying out on playing ($10) PAID
Todd Barry - complaining about cold temperature and not playing ($10)
Larry Costello - 2 turnovers leading directly to goals ($20). Almost got another for his "F U guys" rant after being checked on one of his goals.
Bill Greene (non player fine) - for slandering the 80's supergroup Def Leppard at dinner ($10) PAID

The 1/27/18 Recap

Morning guys -

Last Saturday was another quality outside mg for FPSHL. 18 guys slapped in the gear and hit the playing surface for a couple of hours of intense, grind it out games.

The team of Shawn Hogan, Dave Periera, Scott Erlich, Russ Berardi, Joe Vella, Steve Heino, Ed Gianni, Larry Costello, and Dan Morse were victorious in both hard fought games.

Hard Hat Award - collective Award for the team named above. They started slow in both games, but poured it on late and hung on for the win(s). Congrats men!

"McCock Block" Award - Dan Morse. He was peppered all day, but was a brick wall between the pipes.

Goal of the Week - (technically this is Goals of the Week). Rob Byron - his 4 goals on the day was going to earn him a "hat trick" on the home front...here's to hoping you lit the lamp!

Fines for the week:

Bob Duffy - whiffing on a pass back to the point that resulted in a goal on own net ($20) PAID
Rob Campbell - late ($10) PAID
Todd Heino - missed empty net ($10) PAID
Todd Barry - missed empty net ($10)
Rob Byron - missed empty net ($10)

*** Side Note - all these missed empty nets came from the same team....the gang that couldn't shoot straight. ***

Commish - for forgetting Shawn Hogan's fine from the week of 1/20 ($10)
Bill Welch - defensive zone turnover leading directly to a goal ($10)
Jay Fruci - for improper/late notification of availability ($10)

Delinquent fines from week of 1/20 (penalty of 100% interest)

Dana Sandquist
Steve O'Brien

*** Additional side note - it was a relatively tame night by FPSHL standards, so the fines were somewhat limited this week***

Also, for those of you on Facebook that follow the "Easton Stories" page - FPSHL received a shoutout from a former Marine who was walking through the park on Saturday with a friend. They heard/watched us paying homage to the flag during the playing of the National Anthem. They also paused and joined in with us. Needless to say a proud and patriotic moment for us - there are no kneelers in this crowd!!!!

The Commish has been exceptionally lax in 2018 posting to the page - that is all changing today!

Will be posting the fines/write-ups from the last few weeks....Enjoy!

FPSHL Christmas party:

Although the party/banquet was delayed a few weeks, it was nothing short of a rousing success. Over 20+ guys were able to make it to the VFW on Friday night where FPSHL ran up a record tab of $1400 .....primarily on Bud Lights! In fact, the VFW staff had to go out TWICE during the evening to get more BL's. Between the boozing and gambling, it was a great time had by all.

FPSHL announced it's Man of the Year Award on Friday. It was a tough field of potential candidates, but the Executive Board finally narrowed it down to 2 worthy winners.

Larry Costello (for his dedication to the charity work for the homeless)
Scott Pearsons (for ensuring our facility is always ready to go on game day)

Congratulations again men! Well deserved!

I would also like to thank Dan Morse for arranging the VFW hall and Jay Fruci for making sure we did shots of Fireball every 30 minutes - both major contributors to the success of the evening.

Lastly, I'm happy to report that the sudden case of vertigo that struck Rob Campbell and Shawn Hogan had run its course by The time we dropped the puck in Saturday.

Saturday (1/20) Hockey Recap:

After Friday night's festivities, it was inspiring to see 18 members make their way to Frothingham to play. Although the play may have been slightly sluggish to start, it quickly intensified into some good back and forth hockey. 2 games were played, with each side earning a win.

(Quick side note - Dana Sandquist is trying to get an early lead on the 2018 Man of The Year Award by showing up to do some shoveling......although he didn't do much other than talk to Scott and I as we squeegeed and tried to sweep the puddles up. Better step up your game Sandquist!)

It was an epic day for Fines - we're going to quickly fill up the coffers!!!

Dan Morse - turnover in on zone leading directly to a goal ($10)
Dave Periera - turnover in own zone leading directly to a goal ($10)
Rob Byron - turnover in own zone leading directly to a goal ($10)
Steve Heino - scoring own on goal ($10) PAID
Steve O'Brien - missing wide open net ($10)
Scott Erlich - embrace checking Dana Sandquist and taking each other to the ground (I thought they both enjoyed that a little too much) ($10)
Scott Pearsons - throwing his stick in disgust ($10)
Bill Welch - throwing stick after horrible turnover and then picking up stick and BREAKING against the fence ($20)
Chris Rivers - for whiffing on multiple one-timers ($10)
Rob Campbell - for leaving the game midway through without valid excuse ($10)
Dana Sandquist - for general poor play (nominated by his team) ($10)
Greg Walker - the original Founding Father of the league.....missing the banquet ($10)
Commish - for threatening bodily harm to Dave P on his breakaway (conduct unbecoming) ($10)
Dan Zwerle - for having no cash at the banquet ($10)
Bill Welch again - for breaking Scott P's new stick with vicious slash ($10)
Dan Morse again - first FPSHL player to leave Russ Berardi's 50th Bday party ($10)
Todd Heino - poor pool etiquette at Russ's 50th ($10)

Commish exemption - there was a fine levied against Jay Fruci at Russ' 50th party. While it's true he spent a lot more time with his Canton buddies than with his FPSHL brothers, this fine nomination was submitted by a non-FPSHL member. After careful consideration and review, the Commissioner has declared this fine null/void.

We hope that Russ B enjoys the gift delivered by the FPSHL Membership!!!
