Topridge.

While the view from the top is hard to beat, this trail actually takes its name from Camp Topridge, one of the Adirondacks' historic Great Camps on Upper St. Regis Lake.

Back in the 1920s, Camp Topridge was much more than a "camp." The property included dozens of buildings, an ornate boathouse, funicular rail cars, and even a Russian-style dacha guest house. It was about as elaborate and luxurious as a lakeside retreat could be.

Ski Topridge today and you'll find vast sunny skies overhead, gnarled birch trees lining the trail, and views stretching south toward the water. A century later, the name still feels right at home in the Adirondacks.

Looking out at the Adirondacks, it's easy to appreciate the feeling of freedom that draws so many of us to the mountains.

On Juneteenth, we honor a freedom that carries far greater meaning—the fight for equality and the ongoing pursuit of unity and opportunity.

As we pause to reflect on this important day, we celebrate the progress that's been made and recognize the work that continues to ensure that the outdoors remains a place of connection, belonging, and access for all. Our offices will be closed for the day.
