We are heartbroken over the loss of our friend and fellow aikidoka, Igor Startsev Sensei.
Startsev Sensei was patient, insightful, kind, and deeply dedicated. He was a treasured member of Wadokai Aikido, as well as a respected member of other martial arts communities.
Part of what made training with him so enjoyable and valuable was that he kept you honest; he wasn’t someone who would let you get away with sloppy aikido! He was serious, disciplined, and straightforward, but underneath that no-nonsense exterior was a deeply warm and kind person, with a wonderfully unexpected sense of humor.
There was simply no one quite like Igor. He was not only a respected black belt and fellow martial artist, but truly part of our Wadokai Ohana. We will miss his presence on the mat, his friendship, and the spirit he brought to our community.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, fellow training partners, and everyone who loved him.
May his spirit continue to enlighten our hearts, on and off the mat.
