We have such a great story to share for National Exercise Day!

Thank you to the very talented and famous editor, Dorothy Kulisek for sharing the story of how her iconic local magazine came to be!

☀️ A message from the editor: This story was first published and written in 2007. It has been revised in order to bring it up to date and to look back nostalgically to the sweet time when I started The Sun with my son Robert, and my late husband Bobby Kulisek.

Bobby’s work was complete here in this world when God called him home on July 9, 2015. The Sun paper will forever carry a part of his legacy.

I believe the best way to honor the man who made so much of it happen is to continue on this amazing journey and invite all of you to enjoy every issue of The Sun and remember how it all began.

While it is essential for your physical and mental health, did you know that daily exercise can boost your creativity? Numerous studies have shown a link between physical activity and heightened levels of creativity.

Approach/Philosophy: My approach is always leading by example. Whether that’s in the gym, on the beach, or out in public, always doing what is right. 

I am a lead by example trainer, so any exercise I show you or put you through, is something I’ve gone through myself many times. I will focus on the details, because they matter the most. One thing I tell all my clients is that I can give you the full 20% - all the knowledge & best workouts you’ve ever been through. If you don’t do the 80% of diet & mental aspect on the journey to your goals, I can’t guarantee you’ll get exactly what you want. 

Aside from getting my clients into shape we build the mental toughness aspect & strive to create leaders for others to follow! 

Favorite Workout: My favorite workout is an Iron Man, which consists of running, swimming, paddling, & sometimes rowing (lifeguards) this workout is usually done under 45 minutes to 1 hour. It is a crazy full body workout & your whole body feels pumped up after, you feel great once you get through it. 

Favorite Food: Chicken parmesan with gnoccis

Favorite Sports Team: All Philadelphia teams

Favorite Wildwood Spot: On the south end of the island, at the Cape May Wildlife Refuge, there’s a small lookout over the bay where there’s always so many animals to see & beautiful sunsets.

Favorite Quote:

Fun Fact: AJ is a trainer, but he is also the CEO of Love Blue. Love Blue’s missions is to conserve our oceans through community outreach programs & organized beach cleanups!

Complete the Manion WOD to honor the life and legacy of 1stLt Travis Manion, USMC. The workout represents the date Travis made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq on 4/29/07. Throughout his life, Travis was a fierce athlete who pushed his own limits in and out of the gym. The workout can be completed individually or in a team! 💪

Travis was fatally wounded by an enemy sniper while aiding and drawing fire away from his wounded teammates. His courageous acts allowed every member of his patrol to survive.

The Travis Manion Foundation strives to unite and strengthen communities by training, developing, and highlighting the role models that lead them.

Join us on April 28th at 9am for the Manion Hero WOD (Workout of the Day) 🇺🇸

Complete the Manion WOD (Workout of the Day) to honor the life and legacy of 1stLt Travis Manion, USMC. The workout is designed to test physical and mental endurance. It represents the date Travis made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq on 4/29/07. Throughout his life, Travis was a fierce athlete who pushed his own limits in and out of the gym.

On April 29, 2007, experienced Iraq war veteran from the 1st Recon Battalion, 1stLt Travis Manion, and his fellow Marines were ambushed while searching a suspected insurgent house in the Al Anbar province of Iraq. As he led the counterattack against the enemy forces, Travis was fatally wounded by an enemy sniper while aiding and drawing fire away from his wounded teammates. His courageous acts allowed every member of his patrol to survive.

All participants, regardless of ability, are encouraged to challenge themselves to complete a 400-meter run and 29 weighted back squats, repeated for 7 rounds. This Hero WOD may be completed individually for time, or split with a partner or team. The most important aspect of this workout is that it’s completed to honor the life and legacy of a fallen hero.

The Travis Manion Foundation strives to unite and strengthen communities by training, developing, and highlighting the role models that lead them.

The inspiration for the foundation comes from its namesake. Dedicated to 1stLt Travis Manion, USMC, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of his patrol in 2007, the foundation carries on the legacy of selfless service and leadership embodied by Travis and all those who have served, or continue to serve, our nation.

Before his final deployment to Iraq, Travis left us with a simple but powerful ethos. “If Not Me, Then Who...” describes the sense of duty felt by service members and their families. Today it is a constant reminder for all of us to live with character and put the interests of others before our own.
