What You Should Do if You or Someone in Your Home Has Covid-19?
Before the Covid-19 pandemic makes its grand departure, most of us will know someone who has been afflicted with this virus. If the virus finds its way into your home, don’t allow fear to overcome your emotions. Many cases of Covid-19 are mild, and prompt medical help is available when necessary.
If Covid-19 hits your home, here are a few tips to keep things under control, and to help all of those in the home.
If the infected person is you:
• Stay home. It is recommended to quarantine 10-14 days.
• Stay hydrated, even if you have no appetite.
• Try to stay in only one area of the home (the best option is the bedroom). Use only one bathroom.
• Pay attention to your symptoms. If you have trouble breathing, have persistent chest pain or bluish lips or face, call your doctor or emergency room immediately.
If you are caring for an infected person, apply the same advice as above (for them), along with the following actions:
• Try to stay six feet away from the person, and both persons should wear a mask when in the same area together. Please note: masks should not be put on children under 2 years old, those who cannot remove a mask without assistance, or those who have a hard time breathing. Gloves should be worn if you are dealing with bodily fluids (vomit, urine, blood, etc).
• Don’t share dishes, bedding or other items that can pass the virus to others.
• Clean surfaces that are frequently touched daily. Even when a person is isolated, the caregiver may come in contact with the virus and carry it to other areas in the home.
• Wash your hands often.
• Use lined trash cans in the sick person’s area for used masks, gloves, tissues and other disposable or contaminated items.
• Wash and dry clothes and bedding in the hottest water and warmest dryer setting allowed on the care label.
While precautions may not be full proof, they can minimize the spread.
