Here’s an in depth walk thru of how to throw a roundhouse kick!⬇️
1. The Setup and Chamber
* Stance: Start in a solid, balanced fighting stance with your hands guarding your face.
* Step and Pivot: Step your lead foot outward at a 45° angle. This opens your hips and sets up your balance.
* The Chamber: As you step, rise onto the ball of your front foot and drive your rear knee up and across your body, keeping the leg bent.
2. Hip Rotation and Power Generation💪
* Turn Over: This is where your power comes from. Rotate your hips forward and turn your torso into the kick. Think about bringing the hip of your kicking leg all the way over so it faces the target.
* The Pivot: Continue pivoting on the ball of your lead foot until the heel of that foot faces your target.
3. Strike and Retract
* The Strike: Snap or swing your leg out to strike the target. Make contact using the middle-to-lower portion of your shin, or the ball of your foot for specific targets like the torso. Ensure your ankle is locked and your toes are pointed to protect against injury.
* Counterbalance: As you kick, quickly swing the arm on your kicking side down and back across your butt. This provides critical counterbalance and keeps your opposite hand up to protect your face.
* The Return: Do not let your leg drop to the floor. Immediately retract the leg along the same path you threw it, snapping it back into your original guarding stance💪🥊
